7.62 anyone knows the difference between red tip 7.62 and orange tip

early tracers with 1960's and 1950's can have red tips
headstamps are an indication

Ok thanks .I read some were red was a.p tracers ?

I also read that they were for daylight any truth to that .anybody knows?

If I recall correctly:

Red tips ignited while in the barrel, which supposedly eroded the barrels.

Orange tips ignited somewhere between 10 and 25 yards downrange.

They are both visible day or night.

The newer Violet tips are visible with night vision goggles.

Ive shot a lot of pulled down US orange tip tracer from a variety of 30 cals over the years and it doesnt light until it is at least 100-200 yards out

The MILSPEC for orange tip which is the delayed burn trace is a min of 100 yds before its visible
