Why all the fuss about this particular Winchester stock??? How scarce would it have been unbroken, and how valuable?

Because this particular WRA belonged to General George Armstrong Custer.

All kidding aside, no one is making a big "fuss" about it, it is just as carbine collectors we all hate to see a nice original early stock such as this one destroyed.

Yeah, well, early Winchester does seem to bring out more collector appreciation, I guess.
