Not just hoarding. Most of the shooters I know don't have a stockpile and always bought what they needed before going to the range.

Now that ammo is not readily available, they are buying just to have some on hand.

While maybe not in large quantities per person, add up the number of folks and it becomes quite significant quickly. On top of that, panic buying is playing a role also as there's no defense ammo to be found around here.

Side note: I thought you folks back east weren't allowed to have firearms? What do you use ammo for? Slingshots?

It does go up for sale but sells instantly. I've heard plenty of guys say they have alerts set up at every online seller they can think of and get notifications as soon as something pops up. Nothing seems to last very long though, despite the ever-increasing prices. The time to stockpile was 6 months ago unfortunately.

My question is, where is the NEWLY manufactured ammo going? It doesn't seem to appear on any shelves. It isn't on line. I've been to small gun stores and large gun stores, Fleet & Farm and nothing on the shelves.

Newly manufactured ammo is being shipped and sold but with all the online and retail outlets it is spread so thin that it is just about invisible. There is no one buying it up to “not release” it.

I get several emails a day from online sellers: “New ammo shipment here! Order Now!”

As others have said, it is being bought by individuals stockpiling.
This is, unfortunately, a common experience when ever political forces are at work.
You've had HUGE numbers of new gun buyers and they want ammo with their new guns.
This too will pass...................

many manufactures felt the effects of covid shutdowns, all it takes is the supplier of one item in the process for the wheels to fall off.
