Default Mystery sight.....well, to me anyway.

Came across this front sight and am unsure of its origin. Shown with an M14 on the left and an IHC Garand on the right. Anyone know what weapon the sight in the middle came from? Thanks for any help.

Aftermarket NM Garand sight. That's my guess and I'm sticking to it.

If the dovetail slot is the same size as the M14 and it looks like it has the same front sight screw as the M14 then it is the M79 front sight.

Thanks five 0. I did some online research after your first post and I'm sure you are correct. Don't know why I hadn't thought of the M79. One of my Class III buddies actually owns one and it is a real hoot to shoot with the chalk practice rounds.

Actually the one in the middle is the later version of the M79 made by the contractors. The earlier version is the same width as the M14, but higher. The early versions were produced on the SA XM79's circa 1959/60. Only a few thousand were produced.

M14 on left, XM79 in middle, M79 on right.
