Default Remington 540X Pics

These are a couple of days late but I've been busy.

This rifle has obviously been used a lot. Still, it's accurate and the only thing I had to replace was a broken firing pin (the tail was broken cleanly) which still worked about 90% of the time. The new one has a longer tip that should make it 100% unless the cartridge is defective.

I've obscured the last two digits of the serial number.

Nice. Did you get that at the south store?

How much - $400?

Thanks to you and Col b for the comments. I did get it at the SS on 5 Oct and the price was $400. There were several to select from at the time. I got there about 10:30 AM.

Congrats, nice find. I have one just like it. It is super accurate. The Remington model 540X Target has a fully adjustable trigger and a super fast lock time. The stock is one of the most comfortable and well balanced stocks of any target rifle. You might also say that it is the father of the Rem. 541 Sporter, (same action). The Rem. 540X is also rather rare, only made from 1969 to 1973 and only had a total production of 6,375 rifles.

No US markings. The only "proof" to tie it to military service of any kind is the CMP paperwork showing that I obtained it from them. Sadly, the book by Batha doesn't include the 540X. Either he didn't know about them or he didn't think their numbers qualified them for inclusion.

I plan on using it in our local .22 steel silhouette matches where it should do well. That's why it has the scope. Otherwise I'd put original type iron sights on it.

Those Irons are pricey- Redfield olympic front= $30- The right Redfield ( the real high one) #75 rear = $150+

I'll be getting a Redfield Olympic front sight and #75 rear sight. The Olympic has been ordered through the E-Store and I'll wait for the CMP to release the rear sights later. I think #75 sights are overpriced because of the release of CMP rifles but should come back down in time.... I hope! I also have a 513T so the sight will interchange.

This is the #75 sight for the 540X it will probably be too high for the 513 and the #75 for the 513 will be too low for the 540X
