Default Twin Cities Ball at SL plant?

I have a box of 30-06 ball marked

20 cartridges
ball
caliber 30 m2
Lot TW-40796
Saint Louis Ordinance Plant

Headstamp is TW 52, which I know is Twin Cities, but I've never run across this before being manufactured\packaged at SL.

Any info you can give is greatly appreciated.

Probably a repack. Ammo was repackaged from time to time for whatever reason.

Could also be original packaging. The US Ordnance Plants usually contracted with someone else to make the cardboard cartons. It may have been that TW cartons were not available, and since 1952 was the height of the KW, they used what was available, adding their own lot number.

It's not uncommon to find cartons indicating one type of ammunition but actually containg another. Such as M2 Tracer in an M1 Tracer box.

Or, as togor said, a re-pack, although they were usually stamped with a re-pack number and date.
