Absolutely Not C&R.

They date from the early to mid-80's.

Exact year can be determined by the letter prefix on the S/N.

I believe AX = 1981

I have two of these M12's and both of them are AX prefix rifles, one being AX 524038.

1981 is reasonable. The H&R 5200 (M12) was built from 81 to 84. I have three M12 actions. All have AX before the serial number. In 82 they made a 5 shot sporter. I've never seen one or even heard of one other than a listing in a 1983 Gun Digest catalog. I'll bet there aren't to many around.

My dad had a H&R 5100, which is the civilian version of the M12 target rifle. I have doubts about whether the sporter was ever actually built.

Default Arrived yesterday

Mine arrived yesterday with the ax serial prefix, it was 90 percent or better condition with matching bolt. It had some gum residue on the stock from an old sticker. Can't wait to get a mount for a scope, anyone know where to get one?
