Default M1911

I want to purchase a 45 M1911 for the National Matches. What kind of pistol do I need to look for besides any labeled "M1911"?

Is one model better than another?

First, check the Rule Book and see what is "allowed and "not allowed" on the Service Pistol. There's a chart starting on page 32.

http://www.odcmp.com/Competitions/Rulebook.pdf

Les Baer and Clark Custom Guns both make legal EIC 1911A1's. An alternative is to buy a Springfield Armory or Remington 1911A1 (the plain jane one) and have a competent gunsmith do the necessary mods to make it a legal EIC gun.

Do not buy anything with a beavertail grip safety, extended slide stop, or skeleton hammer; those are all no-nos.

Also, check the forum again. At the bottom is a section on CMP rules. This question has been asked down there several times.
