    Rebuilt but no markings

    Greetings everyone,
I received my rack grade 1911 with a Ithaca frame and RR slide. It has a gov contractor barrel 7791193 with a "85" below that. Assuming the "85" is the year of the barrel. The frame has "FJA" on the left side for Col. Atwood but I see no markings showing it was rebuilt. Obviously it was with the diff barrel and slide but why wasnt it stamped? If this is the case, would you think it might be a good idea to find a Ithaca slide since there is no rebuild stamping? I am not sure these links work but you can copy and paste to see the images

I tried your pic links and all I got was the "join Photobucket and pay an outrageous fee page."

    Sounds like a nice pistol.

Try Imgur. Great site and totally free.

You’ll get many answers. It’s yours and do what makes you happy. I say you have a piece of USGI history as is and straight from government storage ready to issue to our troops. Perfect as is…go shooting and enjoy!!

Mismatched slide and frame is not a sign of a rebuild. It could have lost its mate anywhere. They got mixed up quite often. It also doesn’t have to go to an armory to get a new barrel.

My late war Colt had a 70s dated slide. No rebuild marks at all. Post war CAGE coded, chrome line barrel. Fantastic shooter and a prized possession.

Adding to the above, I was an MP, more than once I traded slides on a 1911a1. Why not have a 'Colt' instead of a Singer (ok, maybe a Rem Rand)

My experience matches the above, these changes could have happened without an arsenal rebuild. When we mass cleaned weapons, nobody cared if the parts that came off a weapon went back on the same weapon. Earlier meaning of plug and play, I suppose. As others have said, all the changes easily could have happened at the unit level.

My Ithaca with a RR slide came from Red River Depot and was an early DCM release. It has no rebuild stamps/marks on it.

I appreciate all the responses. I never realized people outside the armory would change parts themselves. Learn something new all the time. I will leave it like it is and enjoy looking at it. Hoping to take it to the range this weekend with my other 1911's and make a day out of it!

I remember being a young Houston Police patrol officer working 15 district in 1978. On weekends we would occasionally get silent burglar alarms at the National Guard Armory on Old Spanish Trail. We knew what was happening. Weekend duty for Guard members who did not disarm the alarm. One Saturday or Sunday we observed a group of guardsmen gathered around a chest high table cleaning many 45s. Coffee cans filled with soaking internal parts and slides and frames all over the table top. When they reassembled the pistols no attempt was made to match up slides and frames.
