RGN 20,494. Just got the call at 10:15 (4-2-21). Thank you Ms. Auburn and the CMP for the making a dream come true. Hopefully it will be at my FFL tomorrow!
UPDATE: Got my shipment notification this evening at 6:30 (4-22-21). Looks like my piece of history will be here for the weekend. Thanks again CMP! UPDATE: Got the call from my FFL at 1200 today (4-23-21). Picked up my Service Grade Colt Frame / Colt Slide and couldn't be happier! Pics coming soon! |
RGN #20,246. Got the call 04/20, got the shipped notice 04/21, got the call from the FFL that it's ready to picked up today 04/22. That's crazy fast!
We're going to get it tonight. Crossing fingers for a good un'. (edit to follow-up: it was a good ‘un.) |

The RNG process was to further randomize the applications, simply to remove the "advantage" of earlier arrival date. However, you must consider how the orders are fulfilled. Pistols are received in groups (we do not know, 1 shipment of thousands, several shipments of hundreds or thousands, whatever). They are inspected and graded in batches, so further randomized. Then stored in some container/rack, randomized again, other than segregated by grade. When your random number comes up you randomly pick 1 grade out of the 1-3 available at that time. The order is then sent to another person who randomly pics from the number of that grade available in the shipping area only, at that time. Even if you feel the RNG process was somehow not random, enough other factors remain such that your position in line (your RNG #) is not associated with the quality of what you will receive. Look at not just round one, but what has been received in round 2. Yesterday's shipments have the same change of a gem as November 2020 or November 2019. Unfortunately; "gem" is just like "fair"; it is 100% based on the person defining it. So a gem to me may not be for another. CMP considers rack grade to be less of a gem than service; yet many recipients would disagree. But the definition is the difference. Nothing changes the fact that CMP's 3 grades do not have any collector traits at all; simply rust, pitting and function. To be clear, I'm not defending or agreeing with the process; but I do understand it. Nothing changes the basic American desire for a "good" number, a "good " pistol, and the envy of others for what you get. JH |
Not Complaining, Just Wondering
I just noticed that someone whose RGN # is 85 numbers behind mine got contacted for their order but I have not. Does anyone have in insight how this happens?

CMP uses humans to process the applications. Each takes a stack to their desk and works them. One person may get 3 apps in a row there the buyer is home, with credit card and choice in mind. Another may leave messages for 4 customers before reaching a human. Multiple people working multiple packets with multiple callback times means they are not sent in RNG order. Look at the round 1 order thread, you will see they are not in order. When you see people getting the call several hundred past you then email them. JH |
I read somewhere else on here that each person processing orders takes a stack of packets and processes those. So if person A got packets 1-100 and person B got packets 101-200, numbers could be called out of order based on how fast orders are processed, that person availability, etc.
My RGN was 20,299 and got the call on 4/14. Looks like DTC (post #161) was 20,246 and got the call on 4/20, a weeks difference. Just my $.02 |
CMP doing a good job
Lots of people taking potshots at the CMP over RGN's and not getting their call soon enough. It's like a Monday morning quarterback. Get over it. Everyone who got a RGN in the drawing will be offered a 1911 and the last one sold can be a good as the first. My experience was excellent. Monique was polished and professional on the phone. The shipment was prompt and the 1911 was what I expected. I was lucky to get an early number but I was OK knowing that I might not get an RGN based on the huge number of applications that CMP got. Folks, the bottom line is that we are getting a functional piece of history at a reasonable price. Be thankful.

No need to wonder. It will happen when it happens. Mine took over two years.

Exactly - I have not read anyone complaining about the CMP in this RNG discussion thread - lot's of basic questions from people trying to learn and understand. CMP is doing a fine job - and they're moving through thousands of applications, and having to do so without error.
I do chuckle at the guys who are antsy about hearing people with higher numbers getting "the call" first - like when when their number is 50 apart. Well, mine is about 13,000 farther than that, so ... a bit of perspective, please. You will get your call, maybe in a day or two, or three. And I will get hopefully my call in about 13 months. And I will be very pleased if I get a call at all. Quote:
