40x handstop
Anyone have a picture of what a 40x handstop looks like? I think the USMC version is a round aluminum donut style painted black but I don't know what the standard heavy barrel version looks like.

I have a box of handstops and I am hoping one will fit my new 40x HB

Here you go. There's also a threaded washer which is under the handstop plate which the hand stop screws into. The raised petals on the handstop fit into grooves on the plate which allows some adjustment. handstop1.jpg handstop2.jpg

For those of us who don't have a box of handstops laying around :) any suggestions on where to look to acquire one for a newly acquired (hopefully) 40X?

Looks like I'm one of those without a box full of handstops. So, this would seem to be a good project for my new lathe. Could someone with calipers give me some dimensions of an original unit? Thickness and diameter and then diameter, height and offset from center of the screw boss would get me going. Great precision is not really needed. I just want it to work.

 We all went through the hand stop issue 3 years ago. Basically you'll have to watch the gun shows, Ebay etc. as they are very scarce. Most folks didn't have much luck 3 years ago but Hope springs eternal

I know CMP sold some in 04. Hopefully they will list a small batch for sale...

Will this Creedmore hand stop assembly work on a 40X?

joe wilson 12-03-2009 04:24 PM

Dont know mkrad (I have a HB 40x on reserve too and am looking for a suitable handstop as well) But if you are considering buying one like you linked to, this one is as good or better and at a much better price. I bought one for my Mossberg and it is really well made. It even has a piece of black felt attached to the side that slides against the stock. You cant go wrong for $42.

I am looking for a plain round doughnut type as pictured by presidentg.

I just checked and if your 40X has full length hand stop rail many of the current hand stops should work. My USMC 40X has a short rail, about 7" or so, which requires the Remington hand stop. The current hand stops stud diameters are too large for the USMC 40X. It might be a case where the 722 (earlier) actioned rifles have the short rail and the 700 (later) actioned rifles have the full rail. Can't say for sure but can say Good luck...
