Duplicates

Of the cited serial number groupings, which ones have any annotation on the receiver as being a duplicate? I seem to recall some SA's had an A(?) suffix on duplicate WRA serial numbers?

mdoerner 12-23-2010 09:04 AM

Which one got the "A" suffix was at the whim of the unit with the duplicate, I think....Some SA's got the A, others the WRA.....

Mike D is right, units that had duplicate rifles with the same serial number put the "A" on the receiver of one of them not the factory. So even if a unit had a rifle with a duplicate serial number if the unit didn't have the "sister" rifle, then the "A" was not stamped on the serial number. I have two Winchesters in the duplicate range that were not "A" stamped. One is a WIN-13 and the other is serial number 1,376,XXX and I, like Paladin601, wish I could find the SA sisters to my Winchesters.

hogleg 01-29-2011 05:43 PM

I just picked out SA 1640348 today at the south store. Was this S/N an over run by WRA into the SA block?

Thanks

MGentry 02-01-2011 07:55 PM

My WIN-13 is 1,611,3XX.

Amish Bob 02-11-2011 08:55 PM

I own a springfield serial 1628XXA. (may of 43) The A was applied at the CMP when it came thru their program. Looks like they used an electro-pencil.

I don't see a problem with the extra letter, I just wondered why the CMP thought it (at this point of the guns history) needed to be added. But it's an interesting variation non the less.

Bob,

I don't think CMP marked those receivers as duplicates, they have been observed long before CMP was organized. A few appeared randomly as DCM sales rifles in the 1970's - 1980's and as imports.

REB13 02-22-2011 08:20 PM

My WIN 13 is #1,611,03X.

hurricane1 03-12-2011 10:29 PM

I recently bought a CMP special marked with an "A". I wasn't even looking for one, and mine is maked faintly so I didn't know until I got my certificate showing an A after the serial number. Mine is in the 2,454,000 range.

wstanley 07-06-2011 12:47 PM

I bought a WRA w/ WRA barrel from CMP that is in the in 2.46 serial range and does have the A etched at the end of the serial number. From what I have read and learned on the forum, the branch of service unit that had a duplicate serial number would place the A after the serial number to distinguish the rifles between SA and WRA. I guess this was done when they were sent to the Army or whatever brach of service. I believe Orest said that CMP did not etch the A on these duplicate serial numbers. If someone can provide more information on this or where a good source is, please do.

I ALSO HAVE SA #2473196A. IF ANYONE NEEDS THIS FOR THEIR WRA, PLEASE CONTACT ME.

TXDS1VET 12-11-2011 01:28 PM

Just realized the Dec. 43 stripped receiver, SN 24187XX, that's on it's way is an SA over run into the WRA SN range. I'm even more stoked!!! Can't wait to see if it has an "A" mark.

I just recently purchase a Win 13 from the CMP North Store Serial Number 1634178. If someone knows of the S/A version of this serial number let me know. Here are a couple pictures of this service grade.

Nice. That a look, a friend of mine's Garand project.

4 in the front row are all NM, original and pristine. the M1 in the back is a nice Korean war Arsenal rebuild, shoots very nicely. All 5 are SA. There's 1 NM Navy Trophy, 1 NM USMC, 1 NM Type 1 and 1 NM Type 2.

I picked up Winchester receiver #2468288. Now to find its twin.

CNCprogrammer 02-08-2014 03:19 PM

I have Winfield (as opposed to Springchester) #1630081 that I welded in early 1980s (when M1s were "rare") - Winchester SA-52 marked rear half and -32 SA front. The halves came with a complete parts kit for around $150. I assembled the rifle and shot it some and while it worked OK (either the op rod channel was a little too big or the op rod tab was a little too small), I bought a commercial SAInc. receiver and changed the parts over. I shot that until I got my DCM M1 and never shot it again. Terrible waste for the gov't to have cut up that receiver. I hope its twin didn't meet the same fate.

shawn 03-03-2014 07:18 PM

I have CMP Winchester's #1383146 and also 2472792.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has the duplicate SA numbers!
Thanks,
Shawn

Papa Charlie 03-04-2014 09:08 AM

I recently received my Winchester S/N 1,359,285, if anyone has the Springfield sister or an adjacent S/N I would be interested. I checked with CMP and they do not have records of it having passed through their facility.

Is there other places that one could check for S/N's?

FF1915 03-05-2014 04:33 AM

I have springfield 2518457 looking for the winchester

Apache 46 04-18-2014 08:46 AM

Just picked up a WIN sn: 1,376,xxx Has it's original barrel. Wasn't even aware of a sn overrun until I picked this one up. Pretty interesting!

sixlimericks 07-02-2014 11:23 PM

recently picked up SA 25129xx. '44 receiver, '50 SA barrel, all SA internals including an uncut op rod with correct heat lot. SA over G rearsenal stock with serif P.

JRL423 08-20-2014 03:18 PM

I have a Winchester #2465441. I would love to find the SA duplicate receiver or rifle. CMP does not have it in their current inventory. I was able to check that. I think it would be amazing to have both. I really like this WRA. It is one of the best in my collection.

I Just purchased Winchester #1386117 from the North Store. How do you go about finding out if the CMP has the matching SA in their inventory?

Det. Jason 714 08-30-2014 02:57 PM

I have SA 1,369,279 and 1,383,891.

Ed49 09-01-2014 03:56 PM

I have SA 1371350 and WRA 1371354.
Probably about as close as I'll get to a matching pair.
