1919 Colt

I have s/n 594865. (AA rebuilt but matching). Clawson's book says Feb. 1919 but is not specific as to where? Is there any other source that could pin this down?

Fred, you'd have to request a Colt archive letter to get the exact date and destination. However, it shipped on either February 5, February 7, or March 3 almost certainly to the Army Reserve Depot at South Schenectady NY. From there they were sent all over the country to various units including Army, National Guard, and Marines.

Thanks for the help. I did just order a factory letter.

Hopefully they can help you. I placed an order with the archives for my 625109 ser # Colt but they said all their records for 6xx,xxx serial pistols were lost. I hope they didn't lose records near that range.

It is interesting how specific the records were until the war ended and then helter-skelter!

My clawson book lists the following in that serial range in regards to shipments:
2/5/19 332 to Colorado national guard
2/5/19 1592 camp Sherman Chillicothe Ohio
2/7/19 35,700 to Army Reserve Depot South Schenectady
3/3/19 12,200 Schenectady

I asked Colt for a letter on 612,954. They also told me all archives for that range were lost.
