2016 Games event,Jericho,VT

The latest bulletin from CMP says there will be a games event Sept in Jericho,Vermont. What a great idea.
I was thinking about a couple other stops on the way to make it even more fun.
Springfield Armory comes to mind and FT Ticonderoga,Crown Point,Ft William Henry, then cross into VT at Port Henry on up to Burlington and Jericho.
I really like shooting new ranges and seeing new and historic sites.
Then checked the calendar.Nope, can't do it.So all of you luckies just moved up one spot.LOL.Next year for sure.
Show your support to CMP by preregistering early. We learned from the MN games how important that is.

New England Games at Camp Eathan Allen, Jericho Vermont. Sounded old school so I looked up who shoots there and found this-

http://www.vsrpa.org/html/join.html

Picture at top is of one of the Vermont State Shooting Team members with a pre-war style shooting jacket and old wooden stocked M14! If they got the stones to go up against modern AR shooters with old school gear like that stuff, then that is just too cool! I'll join their association just so I can send them some money.

OK, I use gear like that too, but I'm just some guy that shoots for fun, not a state rifle team member.

BuddyBGood 12-12-2015 09:20 PM

BruceR,put a post in the regional section about this games event.
No replies, did everybody snowbird south already?
New Englanders got to talk this up or it will be like MN.

BruceR 12-13-2015 05:00 PM

I suppose after the New Year the promotional stuff will start. It will be nice to have a week of the Games close to home. Only hope that we don't get several days of hypothermia weather which can happen at that time of year. That mountain in the back of the range is a real weather maker.

BuddyBGood 12-13-2015 05:05 PM

Locals are used to it.Home field advantage.
Promotion is best by word of mouth at clubs and gun shows.

champ0608 12-13-2015 05:07 PM

My wife has family in Burlington and Vermont in the fall is very hard to argue with. Being from Arizona, that would be a heck of a travel for me, but it sounds really enticing. I just may see if she wants to go on a vacation this year.

BuddyBGood 12-13-2015 05:15 PM

I am not sure of dates at this time but perhaps NY&Pa State Championship CMP GSV matches could fit in to make it worth it.This year NY&PA were in later Sept.

Oh, they're military rifles. You being from up there and all know they usually work just fine covered with ice. I bet the locals will have much sympathy for the flatlandahs that quit because of a couple days of freezing rain!:)

I hope any "southerners" that are planning to attend are extremely well prepared and well versed for the anti-gun States of NJ & NY as you try to pass through. Preferable to take the preferred detour though PA.

NJ State Police are known to look for NRA stickers on vehicles passing over the Delaware Memorial Bridge into Woodstown, NJ. It seems those vehicles always have a brake light or license plate bulb not working, or "something" suspicious that requires the NJSP to pull over & advise the motorist. Once your pulled over, probable cause is a piece of cake to drum up and then check the vehicle.

None of you guys need to be pulled over like this with a half dozen or more firearms in the vehicle. Doesn't matter if they're fully legal, you'll be in a world of hurt, firearms confiscated and will need to lawyer up to get them back. You'll easily miss the match. This is not propaganda. I can only imagine what would happen if you're near the socialist part of NY (NY City).

Charles in NC 12-18-2015 11:09 AM

That's a great point. I would hate for anyone to not come to the New England Games for fear of being arrested for exercising a protected constitutional right. "Goo Gone" is great for removing potentially offensive pro-gun stickers.

There's the Firearms Owners Protection Act that states it is legal to travel through states with restrictive firearms laws as long as the firearm is legal to possess in both the the point of origin and the destination. This is of little consolation when you are "detained" in a state that thumbs it's nose at federal law. For example, Senator Charles Schumer of New York has stated, and I quote "Bring a gun to New York and we will arrest you."

Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont are freedom loving pro gun states, and they are pretty cool people, even if they are Yankees. Unfortunately, they are isolated from other free areas of the country by states where most residents believe that only the military, police, and the bodyguards of the elite should carry around firearms.

Gunner 12-22-2015 07:18 PM

I hope to see y'all there. I'm going to try to attend myself from Maine.

HANDYMAN 12-26-2015 08:06 PM

I'll be there! but then again the range is only 15min from my house! :D

epm729 12-26-2015 09:02 PM

Buddy,
Looks good. I'm going to put it on my list of shoots for 2016. Eddie

BuddyBGood 12-26-2015 09:05 PM

You rascal Eddy,go for it.

Is there a New York state resident on the forum who can give us the good information on transiting New York with our match rifles, ammo and magazines?

Thanks

Yes, put people at ease so they'll attend. You guys may have won the war, but the South can't let you win everything. It's time for an "invasion" of the North!!!:)

Kind of exciting when you think about it.

As a VT resident who must pass through occupied territory to travel South or West I keep it simple. Arms are cased and unloaded. All materials are under cover and out of sight and not accessible from the passenger area.

Vermont games

Maybe everyone could caravan behind the CMP travel trucks and trailers on the way to the games.Meet in Pa and follow as escort so they have safe passage through NY.

BuddyBGood 05-05-2016 07:05 PM

Vermont games

You guys up north should be talking up this Vermont Games match.
And pre register ,unless you want what happened in Minnesota.

BuddyBGood 06-08-2016 09:03 PM

Vermont games

You guys ought to be getting signed up for this.
Don't let this games event fail due to attendance.
I want to go next year.

Cincinatus 07-07-2016 11:46 AM

I've been reading the threads about traveling through the State of New York to Vermont. I would like to attend the New England Travel Games in September, but I am greatly concerned about traveling through New York with my rifles, one of which is an AR 15. Also, it is my understanding that 20-round magazines are illegal in the State of New York. It is easy enough to purchase 10-round magazines, which is what I intend to do.

Has the CMP put out any sort of guidance on this issue?

BuddyBGood 07-24-2016 08:16 PM

Vermont games

I am not hearing good reports on sign ups for these Vermont games here at Camp Perry.
Please don't let this fail.
Get signed up and bring a friend to shoot your rifles.
I want to go next year.

Average Jericho, VT temps for mid Sept are low of 50 to high of 70 degrees. It doesn't get much better for rifle shooting, and in the Green Mountains ta-boot! I'm really pumped to come up from South Florida. Lets make these Games Happen!:GS:

mrrm 08-01-2016 04:01 PM

Not the ideal answer, but if anyone is leery about traveling with "high capacity" magazines through NY,NJ and any others? Maybe the local shooters, or better yet, the CMP could provide M14,M1 Carbine, AR15 magazines at the site?

Gunner 09-13-2016 08:13 AM

My son and I will be arriving later tonight. Anyone at the barracks?
Called the CMP and they said a fellow competitor may have to let us in after 18:00...

K31Schmidt 09-15-2016 06:07 PM

Just a survey
So how may optics today in the EIC?

Mountain 12-29-2016 09:15 AM

A little late to respond, but took some time to get my account fixed so that I could post.

I shot with an optic for the first time in the EIC. There were quite a few optics- seems to be widely adopted now.

For me, I'll probably drop the optic unless sometime in the future my eyesight leaves me with no choice. I thought the optic was a bit of a pain...

Outstanding location- can't wait to come back next September!
