Nebraska

Located outside Beatrice area -1 HRA SG Garand and looking for a M1 Carbine - a good shooter not a collector. My son and his boy just joined Izsaak Walton gun club at Bennet and I may also join.:)

GreatPlainsRifleman 03-07-2011 07:43 PM

From Lincoln. Looking to finally get involved with the Garand matches at Weeping Water, and possibly at some point to try an EIC match at Louisville.

Hope to meet you guys out there at some point.

nunya80 03-19-2011 08:57 PM

Im in Gretna now... :-) We may need to get a coffee date set up and go punch holes someplace. Council Bluffs Rifle and Pistol Club in Crescent IA also does CMP hi-power matches. Great place w/o the attitude of some of the other ranges. Just good fun.

Hello, fellow Nebraskan's.

I know most people have been shooting their Garands for many years but I finally got out this last weekend to shot my newly acquired CMP SG SA and everything functioned perfectly. First time ever shooting a Garand. No action pics. Just one of my baby.

It cycled very well for what little I know about Garands. I wasn't able to shoot very far. I wasn't able to get to the normal area I shoot on my daughter's farm because of the irrigation system. My goal was to see if it functioned o.k. and it did beautifully. I shot off hand at about 40 yards and the group was 6 o'clock about 2 inches low. The group wasn't any bigger than an egg. Hopefully next time I can get out to 100 yds.

This could get addictive. I don't miss the orange stock, either.

To days results
It was a good day to be at the range. I will have to say that it might have been a bit warm but other than that, it was a nice day.

The course of fire was the CMP Light Rifle, which is a 60 shots event from the three positions. Each position is 10 shots slow and 10 rapid.

Dale Van Gent was WOA with a 580 23x, that also earned him the CMP Gold Achievement Award. He used a scoped Ruger 1022.

Highest Over All with Savage Mark II was Rich Ogden with a 540 8X.

David Karasek was HOA with Open Sights, using a Ruger 1022.

Well, I'm just waiting to get my rifle, but looks like I'll be the next Nebraskan to own a CMP M1 Garand! Next time I'm back home in Lincoln I'll have to go shooting :P

carbineone 05-01-2012 02:35 PM

HenryPatrick 05-01-2012 07:41 PM

tom32 07-21-2013 03:31 PM

Wow, nobody in a year? I shoot an IHC and a 4.2 SA in Crete, sw of Lincoln.

HenryPatrick 07-21-2013 03:43 PM

Welcome Tom. We are all still here. Just don't talk in this thread much

FredG 08-14-2013 01:32 AM

I've got four 1903's that I haven't ever shot yet. It's just that we've got 14 horses around here and I'm concerned about upsetting them with the noise as well as rounds going through back stops and bouncing off of things. The rifles are all of WWI era and are all correct, original and have never been updated with replacement parts. How in the world they managed to get through all of those years and WWII with their original parts and wood is a mystery. But, they did. I'll post some pictures later if anybody is interested. I've thought about getting a Garand and I should. I've owned two before that were from Korea via Blue Sky back in the 80's. Sold them long ago. Haven't shot a Garand for over 27 years. Now my eyes are older and I wear tri focul's. That's another reason that I haven't fired my 1903's. I still like to take them out of the gun cabinet and wipe them down once a week or so however. Anybody else own any 03's?

M1fuzz 08-14-2013 10:51 AM

I have one SA 1903 made in 11/20 that is very nice. Would like to see yours, as they sound very interesting. I have 4 M1's. One is a Blue Sky that is a tackdriver!! Fire off one round and see what the horses do... then you will know.

Dusty31 10-15-2017 07:03 AM

Greetings all!

Moving to Grand Island soon, looking for ranges and matches nearby. I found the Heartland marksmanship park, looks like a nice range but no CMP/NRA type matches on their calendar.

Looks like the closest matches might be Eastern Nebraska?

M1fuzz 10-15-2017 05:19 PM

Dusty. Welcome to NE. Remember, Grand Island is neither grand or an island. Ha.
