M7 bayonets back in e-store

As of the time of this post, the e-store has M7 bayonets back in stock, just FYI.

fartblossom1953 08-31-2021 08:14 PM

I tried ordering and got as far as reading the rules and then was told my citizenship was not verified? Seems funny when I have been buying rifles and ammo for years. Just glad I got a first round .45 before they figured it out for getting a bayonet.

PlumberGuy 09-01-2021 04:07 PM

Under order it will give you reason, 95% of the time it’s “CLUB”
Had to do same thing, update your GCA if that’s you club affiliation

fartblossom1953 09-01-2021 06:28 PM

Mine said "citizen" which just got me chuckling. Maybe the "Guvment" thought I had worked so long for them (45 1/2 years) that they rescinded my citizenship. Who knows.

sfc higgins 09-02-2021 08:18 PM

Good news, I ordered another one.

BobJ50 09-02-2021 09:20 PM

Sure would like to see some M5 bayonets turn up in the same condition as the M7's.
The M7's are fantastic and a bargain.
Couple I opened are BOC. Be pleased to see another maker or two.

That would be terrific! I've been thinking about getting a M5 bayonet for my new to me Garand but they're either expensive or foreign-made.

I got a M7 the last time they were available and wasn't disappointed. I've seen them online elsewhere selling for around $100 so the ones through CMP are a bargain. Mine is an Imperial if anyone was wondering.

macgunner01 09-03-2021 02:18 PM

For those that opened their M7 bayonets: would you be able to provide the type of packaging (box or pouch, etc) and what's printed on the label?

My idea is that maybe we can cross-reference the numbers to determine manufacturer without opening them?

fartblossom1953 09-05-2021 07:31 PM

Finally got order in so I will see what I get.

Dwcole 09-10-2021 08:08 PM

I received mine the other day and decided to open one of them up. They were ordered around the first of the month.

Got mine last night courtesy of FedX. I was tempted to just leave it wrapped for my son after I'm gone. But what the heck....It's never going to amount to anything, so I think it'll be unwrapped soon.

mwf203 09-23-2021 06:36 PM

Got mine today, Bauer Ordnance Company, 3/77' box. Really happy with it!

MGMKS 09-30-2021 11:41 PM

Box is 3/77 and blade 4/74. Box open, knife and sheath not

Will do. Although it may take a while. CMP isn't Amazon. Things take weeks to ship sometimes. Not a complaint, just is what it is.

... isn't everyone opening their boxes? Curious.

Scott_OH 10-07-2021 11:42 AM

Opened one of mine. Outer packaging was 3/85, inner 12/84

Sheath - TWB
Blade - Imperial

I blame you guys for this second order! I still haven't received my first order from 2 weeks ago.

They have been going in and out of stock the past couple of months. I would check the e-store regularly, could come back in stock at any time.

fly by night 10-24-2021 05:34 PM

I have checked all 11 pages on the eStore and can't find the bayonets. Can someone give me a tip on how to find them?

JW_Pepper 10-24-2021 06:54 PM

1stgarand 10-24-2021 07:33 PM

They will be listed at the top of the e store page, with the ammo and stuff, when they are in stock. Out for now.

BobJ50 10-24-2021 08:10 PM

E-Store page with a specific line item "Bayonets"
It usually just pops up and you need to jump on it.
I don't need any but I still check a couple times a day-when I read the Forum.
I want M-4's and M-5's!

BobJ50 10-29-2021 02:20 PM

10/29/2021 M-7 Bayonets listed in E-Store. $42.00 and they have been NEW in box.

Yep. Bayonets, plural = zilch. Bayonet, singular = http://estore.thecmp.org/Catalog/Item/PB008M7

That M8 does appear to be NOS. I canít imagine many were still around in the Vietnam era to be packaged with these bayonets. Cool score if you get one!!

A few years ago when the North Store had the M7 bayonet NOS repacks available for purchase I would normally pick up one or two sets during each visit. At the time we still had the most knowledgeable person on US bayonets with us, Mr Gary Cunningham.

I had sent Mr Cunningham a few examples of some scabbards and bayonets I had received. Mr Cunningham suggested that I should open the box the repacks were in to inspect the scabbards for any rust. The scabbards were not sealed but wrapped in rust resistant wrapping. Mr Cunningham suggested to keep the bayonets sealed as the bayonets had never been issued but the manufacturer could be had by the NSN number stamped on the package. I ended up getting 6 or 7 M8 scabbards packed with the M7 bayonets.

With the M7 bayonets and scabbards being repacks they were not originally packed with a scabbard. This was done after the Vietnam war so Mr Cunningham did not see any harm and encouraged me to open the packages to inspect the scabbards. Iím very glad I did. I had purchased his book (autographed and numbered) which has the information needed to see what bayonet is packed without opening the bayonet. Itís odd that they would pack an M8 scabbard with these M7 bayonets. If the M8 scabbards have not been modified they will not fit the newer USGI web belt.

As pictured on the estore, it says M8 on the throat but it does have the metal hanger!! We need Gary now!!

Agree on Mr. Cunningham. I've read a lot of his work. It's fascinating.
The two I ordered arrived a couple weeks ago and I haven't been home yet to even open the CMP box they arrived in.

Couple questions:
1) Are the scabbards & bayonets packed separately?

2) A little confused on how the bayonets are packaged. Can I open the package for inspection and then somehow reseal them for protection? If so, how?

Thanks for the guidance. First time dealing with sealed USGI anything.

The two I bought at the NS neither scabbard had the metal hangers. I thought that these were rare compared to the ones with the hangers. I know nothing about these....

SirWilliam 10-31-2021 10:25 AM

The four I bought last month were all M8A1 scabbards with metal hangers and the "shoelace"

Bill

I just ordered another one. Can't go wrong for $42, and maybe score an M8!
I also saw these in the e store and put one in the basket too.

Never seen these available, made in the USA with broken Garand stock handles.
Can never have too many blades!:D

mellow 10-31-2021 11:41 AM

Tne one i got thurs was manufactured in 8/69, repacked 3/77 with a M8A1 with metal hangers and shoe lace. M8A1 looks good with no rust, possible nos. Left m7 sealed. Would love to know the manufacturer without opeing, what and where is the nsn #? Ordered couple more

T38Carbine 10-31-2021 11:48 AM

This is from Gary’s bayonet points #6

Scabbard, Trench Knife, M8 shown with a Knife, Trench, M3 on a Belt, Pistol and Revolver, M1936. Inset shows a closeup of the marking on the throat. Note that unlike the M3 and M7, the contractor's initials are marked on the throat.

Within a few months complaints came in from using services about the fact that the M8 scabbard would not fit the rifle belt. To satisfy this complaint, the M8 was modified by adding a double hook to the top of the web hanger. Since the sewing necessary to retain the hook would narrow the opening in the webbing to the extent that it no longer would slide over the pistol or other similar belt, the hanger was lengthened so the remaining loop was the same size as the loop on the M8, allowing the hanger to be slid over a belt if desired. This resulted in a change of nomenclature for a short time to Scabbard, Trench Knife, M8A1, and after the issue of the M4 bayonet, to Scabbard, Bayonet-Knife, M8A1. Although the official nomenclature was changed upon adoption in April 1944 it was some time later that the stamping on the face of the throat was changed, so there were many new-made M8A1 scabbards that were still marked M8.

NSN on all of these should be the same, regardless of manufacturer. What might be different would be the manufacturer or CAGE code. The CAGE code would be a five place alpha-numeric code.

That contract is by Bauer Ordnance Corporation (BOC). BOC was the largest maker of M7's.

The M8A1 scabbard is made by the Working Blind (TWB). They are the same company as the PWH marked scabbards (Pennsylvania Working Home for the Blind), they changed their name towards the end of the Vietnam war production.

JW_Pepper 11-01-2021 01:45 PM

That's great info on Bauer.
From a World of Bayonets article, TWB produced ~22% of M8A1 scabbards. Yes, same group as PWH but stamped differently.
So it looks like my two are a mixed bag with the Bauer bayo as most common and TWB scabbard as not so common.

https://imgur.com/a/uTfzNH8

Next question; what's the value hit if I cut open the sealed bags?
