Well,
Picked mine up today. RR frame and slide. 1945 date, I believe. Looks awesome. Field Grade.

Ok, you guys in the know please help? Picked up my colt/colt today sn# 1180824 & has the following markings if someone could share your knowledge in what they mean? Has crossed cannons, SA on right side, GHD on left side, 35 on trigger guard with K on the other side, P on top of slide & on left frame?

Papa got his call on Thursday. He was offered rack & field, he chose field. They didn’t have his choice of FFL on file so he had call. That FFL did not answer the phone or return his messages so he had to find a new FFL. Got that done and license sent in EOD today. When I got my pistol a few months ago there was a delay on shipping Field grade pistols. Is that still an issue?

Try looking at this website http://www.coolgunsite.com/ you should be able to find most of what you are looking for there.

Look at the Guide and ID Pages on the left side of the home page.

Yes,I actually found that site after I posted. Found out a lot! Looks like all correct? Not real sure about the Springfield barrel but I found on another site that 1943s came with the Springfield from the factory....

I’m guessing the higher number’s aren’t as active on CMP Forums, or rather I’m hoping that’s the case. If they’re down to something like 25 contacts a day, and no longer accepting requests it makes me think they may be running out.

I expect they will open a round 3 for applicants once they have reached the the end of the current round. At least I hope they do. My nephew is old enough to qualify now and I’m sure he would like to get one himself. I believe the deal with the army is for up to 10k pistols per year and I don’t think they have sent that many in a year yet. I also think I read some where the army has over 100k 1911 pistols in their inventory. Though a quick search left me unable to verify that number, so take my numbers with a grain of salt as they could be complete BS. 🤞🏻

I wonder if they have done a more recent update to that report.

Using that Rand report as a search tool I found a GOA report on the Rand report that’s a little shorter but still has the pertinent information from 2019.

“The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2018 required the Army during fiscal years 2018 and 2019 to transfer surplus .45 caliber M1911 handguns to CMP, including not fewer than 8,000 in fiscal year 2018 and not more than 10,000 in any fiscal year.”(page 1)

“RAND estimated:
• Based on the assumption that the Army would ultimately transfer to CMP all 98,016 surplus M1911 handguns, that CMP would generate gross profits of approximately $8 million, including from the sale of the 8,000 M1911 handguns already transferred to CMP in fiscal year 2018.”(table 5)

This report is only 8 pages so it’s not terrible to read.

If you figure they have supplied 32k pistols so far, there are still 66k pistols that could be sold. That’s provided that congress doesn’t remove the program from the NDAA in a future year.
