Be sure to read the bank's policy on what can go in the safe deposit box. I recently rented a safe deposit box and the bank does not allow a gun to be stored in it.

I'd be very careful about putting one in the box if it violates the bank policy. If discovered, you may get to have a "discussion" with law enforcement.

Correct, most banks prohibit storage of firearms in safe deposit boxes. And, even more to the point, a safe deposit box is not very safe at all when it comes to financial disputes.

If you owe money to someone and they obtain a judgement against you, most states allow a creditor to get a levy for the funds in your bank account AND even the contents of your safe deposit box. The creditor can get what's in your safe deposit box, or more often the proceeds from the sale/auction of what's in your box.
