M5A1 Bayonet and M8A1 Scabbard Price?
So the auction site has these available which is nice, but can someone explain the current price of $312.00 considering it clearly states " This will be for one Bayonet-Knife and one Scabbard"? That's more than I just bought a mint M1905/42 Bayonet and M3 Bayonet for recently. You can pick up the same year new Bayo on Ebay for $50.00 so what is up?

Last time I was at the TMP I picked up the exact same named pair, albeit they are earlier dated to boot for $37.00. Mine were still in cosmoline and in much better shape. It looks like the auction Bayos are parkerized and what exactly is that white stuff all over the scabbards anyway? Minimalistic description as typical.

Is there something special about these that I am missing or is someone thinking this is for the whole box of thirty? Just curious!

Classic case of CMP Auction-eye-‘tis!! Once you catch it you don’t care what you pay!!:D

LOL......good diagnose T38Carbine. Sounds like one bad disease if it is indeed the cause. Looks like the white stuff on the Scabbards is spreading now that you mention it! Two word cure = Comparable Sales.

Looks like a clear Bargain to me.

Dupage has the same new bayonet and scabbard for 80.00 plus free shipping....

Right apzd2, lots of market value priced options out there. It's not like these are limited prodution collectables. Unless they know something we don't?

Only one Auction day remaing and now at $322.99. Just learned the EStore is posting used sets for $36.00 -

Given the South Store reports state you can still hand select much like I did at TMP a year ago, I still do not get how this one makes any sense. Interesting none the less!

Maybe the high bidders would be legacy-donating the money to the CMP anyway?
At the auction, they get a souvenir to leave their heirs!:D

Maybe the bidder so the 30 ct each and thought they we bidding on a case?

Both recent theories posted are valid possibilities. Bidder will be dissapointed if the 30Ct Case theory proves un-true which should be confirmed if auction item is relisted after midnight tonight.

The legacy donation purchase is a very viable theory. One mentioned elsewhere in this sub-forum as being used often in CMP Auctions. Having purchased from the CMP Auction, I recently looked into IRS rules for tax deductions on items bought above fair market value from 501-c3 entities.

An interesting approach indeed. Good for buyers intent, bad for non-donating bidders and definitely not an arms length transaction when looking for comprable sales.

Will likely never know the real motivation here and since "curiosity killed the Cat" it's time to leave this one behind. Good info to be aware of and great input from all!
