What would cause these marks?
I just received my rack grade Remington Rand yesterday. Looks like I didn't get one as nice as the other rack grades I've seen posted. At least it has both a RR slide and frame. It looks like someone took a ball peen hammer to the area where the grip safety meets the frame. A careless armorer maybe?
The barrel seems almost new, from 1985? Thanks for any opinions! Pete https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...=278&crop=fill https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...=278&crop=fill https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...=278&crop=fill https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...=278&crop=fill |
I’d be happy with that one, but it does look like someone hammered the hell of of it.

Someone that doesn't know how to remove a thumb safety. More common on the slide stop.

You did well!! Shoot it and enjoy!!

Maybe it looks worse in person, but from your pictures it looks like a winner. I'd be more than happy with that one.

I have seen these before and assumed it was from a holstered pistol being banged around on something hard.

These were tools of war, used for much, much more than discharging bullets. Think of these USGI pistols as Swiss Army knives. They were used for shooting, hammering, prying, grappling, hurling, cracking walnuts, etc... Every scar, scratch and ding is a sign of use.

Thanks everyone. This pistol is growing on me! I knew before ordering a rack grade what I was getting into (I have a rack grade M1 garand), I just was initially disappointed by those specific marks and can certainly live with it. I'm going to take it to the range tomorrow hopefully.

I’d bet money it was used as a hammer. If it doesn’t grow on you, let me know. I could easily live with that one.
