Have gun will travel.
Cheesehead also. |
I'm a novice and am looking for someone whom is knowledgeable to travel to North Shore with me to help me pick out a few nice Garands. I've recently been bitten by the Garand Bug and I'd like a piece of history yet I know absolutely nothing about the M1.

Where do you shoot Garands in Wisconsin? You are welcome across the pond and shoot in our Arctic matches! Swede

Where & when are your "arctic" matches? :) |
In Stevens Point area here, you mention opening a "shooting range" around here it's like your talking about opening Mustang Ranch or something..very frustrating, even when I take my Garands to the public range, the guy that runs the joint always makes me eject 3 rounds from the 8 rnd. enbloc before I shoot. Some kind of "assult weapon" capacity rule..
It sure would be nice to take part in a match and not have to drive 6-8 or 10 hrs. |

I hear you. I am hopefully getting my first 'personally owned' Garand soon. It is an hour drive to the nearest range and you have to buy a membership there... Luckily, my dentist loves to shoot and has a range on his farm (outside of Madison). Come to think of it, I need to have some dental work done! :)

Where to shoot...central WI
Waupaca has two ranges (100 yds.). Need to be a member though. Both are low volume, but few restrictions.

Also High Power at 100 yards and Rimfire Sporter matches on other weekends. (Indoor at 50' with reduced targets) http://beloitrifleclub.org/calendar/ Keep an eye on that for upcoming events, as well as http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/match...gnation=GARAND and http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/match...nation=RIMFIRE The Garand/etc. matches are $15 for non BRC members, and the club has several loaner Garands and sells ammo at $20 for 60 rounds. (not sure how long that'll hold out) Be glad to have ya! |
I always go to the Shiocton range... no restrictions. We've shot machine guns and .50BMG there as well as .22. You may have a warden or sheriff pull up though, so have your paperwork handy! Its public but there is a $3 donation per visit. If you go, please be respectful and clean up after yourself. I hate to see good things wrecked.

Finally broke down & started my Izac Walton membership this spring so now I have a nice place to shoot..whatever..rifles, pistols..trap and archery...best $75 i've spent. Not the matches I wanted to shoot in but...I can shoot what i want and as often as i wish.

Which Location?
Where did you sign up? The closest one to me is Janesville, WI and I've shot there a few times over the years.. Great club and great people!!:)
|
I live in northern Indiana, but my parents live in Oshkosh. My mom would be a huge fan of whatever club gave me an excuse to drive up there to shoot a few matches.
|
Shoot my Inland Carbine, Garand, Mosin and Mauser at the KCCC. One round in gun rule unless you get approval to load a full clip or mag for operational checks. Five round limit on hand guns. Rule is ok with me since I spend my time working on my sighting skills. 100, 200 yard range for rifles. Nice place.

Wisconsin ranges
Hello, I copied this from Rich in WI, it's about the Fort McCoy new range:
For those not aware there is a new range complex at McCoy open to the public. Rifle range goes out to 200 meters, pistol range to 50 meters (with target frame and falling plates). All covered firing points with benches on the rifle range. Also has a trap and skeet field. They are also building a clubhouse with a restaurant. Cost is $75/yr for civilians and $50/yr for miltary affiliation, or $5 and $4 per day if you don't want to join. Go to https://mccoy.armymwr.com/programs/sportsmans-range for more info. They also have a Facebook page if interested; https://www.facebook.com/pg/FortMcCo...=page_internal Regards Bill MMC USN(RET) |
