How to: Post Pictures
To post an image...
1 - Whatever you want to post has to reside on the web somewhere, which means it needs an http:// address, where and how it is hosted is up to you. 2 - Once you locate the Site, Video or Image that you want to post you do the following: Step 1: Copying the http:// Address or URL - Site: Copy the URL in the address bar at the top of your browser. - Video: Either find something that says Share or Embed in Website, click on the URL that pops up and Copy, or right click on the image of the video, go to properties and copy the URL. - Image: Right click on the image, go to properties and copy the URL. Step 2: Pasting the URL that you copied into your post or thread - Click on New Thread or Post Reply - In the dialog box that pops up, right-click and select paste. it should look something like this: (http://thisisanexample.com) Step 3: Making the site, video or image you posted visible and useable within the thread: *NOTE: I am leaving spaces between the brackets [ ] and the letters url or img, this is being done so that you can see what it looks like, when you actually do it, DO NOT leave spaces. - For Sites and Video you put this at the beginning [ url ] and this at the end [ /url ], for example [ url ]http://thisisanexample.com[ /url ]. - For Images, same deal, just replace url with img That should do it… Now, next step. <O></O> To be able to see the images in a thread... After logging in, got to the "User CP" up in the menu. Go down to "edit options" Now scroll down to... "Thread Display Options" and find "Visible Post Elements" and check the box next to"Show Images" "Show Images (including attached images and images in [IMG] code)" The scroll down and click "Save Changes"... And if the person did the "insert image tag" correctly, you'll be seeing images. This should also allow you to post pictures as images rather than links, using the "Insert Image" icon. All set! -GITM |

Using the [img] tag does this:

If you use the HTML code it will appear like this: <a href="http://s16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/francis-marion/?action=view¤t=5882517-2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/francis-marion/5882517-2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> You can also click the Preview Post button before submitting to make sure it looks the way you want it to. |

HOW TO post Photos From PHOTOBUCKET
originally posted 04-05-2010, 12:55 PM - updated 14 January 2012 Since my original post many changes have taken place in the software that drives Photobucket and the CMP Forum. It is likely many more changes will come in the future. This post brings my ancient post up to date (for now). http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/t...ToUpdate-1.jpg http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/t...ToUpdate-2.jpg The completed post http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/t...pletedPost.jpg |

I'm sure if you are a flickr member you have access to a higher resolution for posting your photos. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1270/...eedbeb95_t.jpg |

so you have to go into your UserCP (user control panel) and check that box.. To be able to see the images in a thread... After logging in, got to the "User CP" up in the menu. Go down to "edit options" Now scroll down to... "Thread Display Options" and find "Visible Post Elements" and check the box next to"Show Images" "Show Images (including attached images and images in [IMG] code)" The scroll down and click "Save Changes"... the link works and gets us to your album..
but if you want to post a certain pix directly.. See the link under a pix called "direct link" copy that from you album. Than see the little icon above where you are typing the text for your post.. the http://forums.thecmp.org/images/editor/insertimage.gif icon , click that icon, and past the "direct link" you had copied from your album , into that new little box that popped up after you clicked on that icon. |
Photobucket also offers a simpler hosting site called tinypic. It's all that I use now.
http://tinypic.com/ |
there are a few selection for the code you can copy and paste...
when you get the line of code for you pix, that has (ignore spacing, had to add so the forum doesnt think I'm trying to post a pix) [ i m g ] w w w.photobucket.com/xxxxxxxx [ / i m g ] just copy that entire line, and paste it into your posting... without using the little photo insert icon in the forum post editor..... The only time to use that little icon .. is when all you have is the link to the photo, and it just inserts the " img " tags : [ i m g ] www. xxxxx .....jpg [ / i m g ] before and after the link for you.... but photobucket has a selection of the code with it there.. so when you copy it, just paste it into your posting, as if you were pasting a word or something. |
Random question for the IT guys-
Greetings,
This may have been answered before or might be obvious to others, however I'm a paranoid type so: Most times nowadays there is metadata imbedded within the pictures we take, to include location data. Supposing we post our pictures (from, let's say, my shop) is it possible for the evil-doers to decode lat-long of said shop? Pretty sure most people would either stop posting pictures or never take them from their homes, etc. What says the group? Best, Petrolero |

Ramit - thanks. I thought so.
Does anyone else realize that if you don't edit this info out, you're liable to be giving away GPS coordinates of your location? Petrolero |
some cameras do it, some don't.
Some phones do it, some don't. But yup more so now a days than ever before. |
Instead of going through the hassle of editing the metadata, it should be a lot easier to go into the camera setup and turn off GPS. If there isn't a GPS on/off switch, then the camera probably doesn't have that function.

Noticed a common problem with forums using this format. The software doesn't allow members with a low post count to display images directly in their posts. Instead you get the little image icons and readers need to open a new tab to view the pictures. Anyone know the arbitrary number of posts necessary before one gains full functionality?

As discussed in post #9 by ramit, make sure your user CP is set to allow posting of attachments. If you still have issues, send me a PM. Regards, Rob |
Do you have to use a photo hosting site? Why can't use display photos stored in your computer directly? If this can be done, how?

Why can't use display photos stored in your computer directly?
You could if you had a web server on your computer and a fixed IP address. But most people don't. |

Is it not allowed to post direct pictures into the thread, all I see here are links?

If adding a picture helps, then by all means, do it. Everybody loves a thousand words in a picture. Keep in mind. telling HOW YOU did it could be tremendously helpful to someone that has no done it themselves. |
I am much more able to use facebook than this site for some reason but I will try

Thanks BigRed - that would be great...I haven't been able to do it using the iPad

Apologize for the much over due response...other pressing matters lately.
Here is how to copy and paste pics using an iPhone/iPad and Photobucket. One word of caution...unless you have the paid ad-free option for PB, be prepared for an advertisement pop-up you will have to close on EVERY screen! Photobucket and iPhone/iPad Assuming you have already loaded the pic to your library, bring up PB...either through the mobile site or app. 1. In your Library or Recent Uploads, tap the pic you want to load so it brings up just the pic on your screen as seen below... Then tap on "Share" at the bottom... When you do, you'll get the small window pop-up just above with the four options (Facebook, Twitter, Get Links, E-Mail) as seen in the pic below... http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...psnraxvtm0.png 2. Next, tap the "Get Links" icon. You will now get a screen that shows this... http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...psyq5hmrqh.png 3. You will see several options for links. But, the link you want is the last one, that says "IMG (for forums, boards)" with IMG being an acronym for image. On the screen, it says to tap and hold to copy a link. That might work on some smart phones, but I have found that is not the case on my iPhone 6 and original iPad. If it doesn't copy when you tap and hold, just quickly tap anywhere on the text of link so the cursor is flashing in it. Then tap on the cursor and hold...it will come up with the option to "Select, Select All, Paste" Tap on Select All... http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...psjwhvdmbf.png 4. After tapping Select All, it will highlight in blue the entire link and then give you the edit options ("Cut, Copy, Paste"), as seen here... http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...pstsl7p3gw.png 5. Tap on "Copy" Then, go back to the forum website and to the post in which you want to insert the picture. Then tap in the post where you want to paste it and hold so you see the edit options again, as seen below. Tap "Paste" and the hyperlink you copied previously from PB should appear in your post, and will be in the format to display as a pic in your post/thread. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...pssgzdgf24.png As time allows, I will add procedures for other photo-hosting sites (such as Imgur) and other mobile devices... . |
Any idea how you get permission to post attachments?

New member here and not too computer savvy. Yesterday I tried posting pics on this site from my home computer on my photobucket and it seems to have worked well. Problem is, once they were posted a viewer is able to scroll through my personal pictures many of which are private family pics and other stuff not relevant to the pics of my carbine I was trying to display.
I read through this thread but don't think it addresses the issue I'm having. Is there a way to just post individual pictures without opening the door to other private ones? thank you |
Thats a setting on photobucket. Youll have to turn whatever albums you dont want others to see to private. There are plenty of free image hosting sites to use that wont link back to your personal photobucket

It seems like I'm missing a final step, but cant figure it out. Can someone help? Thanks, To be able to see the images in a thread... After logging in, got to the "User CP" up in the menu.
