It is great that they do that now. Back in the mid 90s they didn't.

At least for Rifle.

An older guy got his Service points in the 60s and I got mine in the 80s. We were really bolt gun shooters but decided to try for the Distinguished Rifleman badge.

After a few Leg Matches we knew we should be close to legging out. I went to the CMP office at Camp Perry with my Army orders in hand. They said sorry, they won't count them. The old guy could see them not counting his because he had no paperwork (his house had burned down a couple years before) but was baffled that they wouldn't count mine.

Anyway, we both just soldiered on and got our badges with all civilian points.
