When remodeling my grandparents house this was found in the top of the closet. My grandfather was in WW2 but passed away when my mother was young. That being said he didn't talk about it much with her other than he was in the Air force and worked on radios. I'm pretty sure he was in the European theater so it doesn't make sense that he would end up with a Japanese bayonet. Anyway all that aside what would be the best way to preserve the bayonet?

I recommend that you just put a good coating of gun oil on it, and wipe it off after a while with a lintless rag, then re-oil.
Don't do any heavy duty cleaning on it. Just preserve it as is. The oil will prevent further rusting. |
