1. Took some weight off the fat barrel ( this barrel is nothing special and seen some rounds especially the cheap stuff)

2. Lost the annoying brake and some barrel--ended up with almost 3" of barrel loss

4. Changed out to a free float tube. Its about a wash for the A2 guards I had on there.
5. Re crown 11' crown I went a little deeper to leave just a slight "ring" (blue) then polished it up

quick test 100 yards benched, lunch time rushed method!
left PPU m193 Right 24 grains varget 69gn Nosler CC.

so if I make it to VT games I should be good to go

I will bring the hack saw and cut that last available inch off if needed!

after that I will SBR tax stamp it!

My AR with a WW Government Profile A4 upper came in at 7 lb. 9.7 oz. Two quick fixes:

1. I ordered a lighter pair of handguards from RRA. A pair weighs 8.8 oz., which cut off about 0.7 oz. of weight from the handguards that came installed on the upper.

2. I swapped out the knobs on the carry handle with 10-32 stainless steel lock nuts.

Total weight after these mods: 7 lb. 7.8 oz.

I know this is an old thread, but I’m just circling back on this. For these government profile barrels, which is the way to go, 1:7 or 1:9 twist?

Well: I'm trusting that you are not related to Jen Psaki.... As for the barrels: possibly interesting story.... I built two 7.5# ARs for CMP MM class, both with A2 length and weight barrels 7" twist--but not the same manufacturer (could only get one from each supplier at the time). See previous posts in this thread. Both rifles shot fine, easily holding the ten ring. However, my friend experienced occasional fliers and "disappearing" bullets with his rifle. No problems with mine--different barrel. After testing (there is a thread on this forum somewhere), we determined the problem was the bullets were not holding up to the speed and rotation (new barrel with sharp rifling, etc...). Mil spec 55gr open base were OK and slowing down the match hollow points also ended the problems. I don't think this is a common problem, but you may want to consider this matter some. Since the MM match is 100 or 200yards, you can use a 55gr FMJBT or slow down any match bullet, use (almost) any barrel and still have enough accuracy that your offhand will determine outcome. Good Shooting. ...

Nice - I had to look that one up, and no relation or affiliation. I have read through some of the threads you mention. The main intent for my build will be for modern military; however, I will likely shoot across the course every now and again, although I understand I will be out-gunned by the purpose-built service rifles.
