Hello and thanks for helping me to get my forum membership straightened out.
I very recently purchased an M1 Garand whose serial number was hard to make out in the pictures, but I am fairly sure it is 53246XX.... I could not make out the last two digits. The rifle itself is in nice condition and laser engraved on the stock are the words "Secretary of The Army Trophy Army Small Arms Championships 2005" and it has a pair of gold leaf emblems on either side of the inscription. Was this rifle built by CMP? I don't believe I will be getting any paperwork with it so am curious as to whether I can do so through CMP. (if the rifle came from CMP) ![]() |

Can't tell if it's a CMP rifle but it sure looks nice from the pic.
Post more pics, we love eye candy. You can contact CMP to do a search I think the cost is $25? Most likely a custom build especially the stock for the winner of a shooting contest. List the parts too. Bolt, OP rod, barrel manufacturer and date, trigger group breakdown and rear sight markings for starters.

I will certainly post more pictures after the rifle is delivered, the anticipation is killing me right now! There is a dedicated thread here by coltgrabber with some information at

2nd and 5th post nails it...............
Wait for the rifle, get an accurate Serial and then pay the CMP 25.00 to see what they say.

Ok, Im back... the serial is 5924658, I just finished disassembling, photographing, and uploading the pictures. Please keep in mind that I am an absolute newbie as far as M1 Garands go, but this one probably belongs in the safe and I should be beating on a decent rack grade; which is probably how it will go.
Shomway thank you for the letter form, I will indeed use that format as it seems to be efficiently written. Images here https://postimg.cc/gallery/bPvjpDr Edited to add, I could see a very faint ink stamped number beside the sharpie marked number inside the stock. I can't make it out. Ok, well... thanks for the replies fellows!
Each to their own, but of many opinions and types of guys that exist; there are two which I am not. I am not the type to shoot a safe queen, and I am not the type to hold onto one because I won't and can't bring myself to shoot it. I have always been a poor boy and those times when I have had really perfect safe queens, I have found that I don't want to use them because they are the type of gun a fellow who can afford to stick them back and leave them alone prefers and enjoys, and of course, it is well and good that such people exist, but it also important that Bubba realizes there are guns to be Bubba'ed, and guns to be looked at through the glass of a gun case. The world, of course, needs both kinds. I weighed the option of getting a used stock and putting the Trophy stock back for safekeeping and using this rifle; but there seem to be quite a few unrebuilt SA high serials around that someone or maybe several someones have "broken in" already, and I hate to worry about dents scratches rain, whatever... just takes all the fun out of it. Also, I considered spending 25$ to find out more about the rifle from CMP, then realized I don't care, that can be somone else's job. Last edited by RG; 10-02-2022 at 05:57 PM.
