We will probably see it more and more. At that price, coupled with the price of fuel and food, people are not going to buy much.

Locally, ammo shelves are nearly full, primers are tricking in regularly and several powders are starting to sit on the shelves. I suspect this trend will continue to accelerate as higher winter costs kick in.

Varget became the Niche powder to go to around 2008 and prices then started to soar. Then demand increased for it and its been soaring in costs and in limited amounts for over 14 years and now over 60 bucks a pound ?

I found other powders that suffice for my 1000 yd shooting...other than Varget which is basically extinct to find for last decade and priced like diamonds. Its a good powder but its no Game Changer , plenty of other powders to do the job.

And before Mr. Good Wrench pipes up Varget isn't temp sensitive...yes it is, all powder is and if you got good dope, you know what to dial in and get the shot going where you aim it. IE. At 60F or 92 F...with powders I use, I know what those powders will do at 1000 yds and what to dial in the scope depending on temperature conditions at the range. 72F...yup, got the dope, temps rise to 80...got the dope. I know what to expect , even with RL15 which is easy to use and to know what is going to happen...keep good dope and what does that cost... a ball point pen and a 1 Dollar note book and temperature...go pull out your Wazoo Smart Phone and get the temps. Winds & Mirage...put down the Smart Phone and turn on brain housing group (which ain't temp sensitive ...LOL )

Varget...left it long ago, its a great powder but its not "wonderful " and necessary .

Wow $410 before shipping and hazmat… Varget was in stock for a little bit at Midsouth for around $316. Personally I have gone to A4064 for 30-06 and Tac for .223.

Just in...Varget at 53 bucks a pound, at Greentop , north of Richmond. Am I rushing there? ... nope, IMR 4064 is doing just fine for me at BLACK MARKET 43 dollars a pound.

Math...buy 4 Varget or buy 5 of IMR 4064 for same bucks and same 1000 yd accuracy.

Y'all go to Richmond, take your snow shovels and load up.

Welll.....a "good powder" or a "great powder"?? I say it is a "good powder" and definitely not a "great powder". It is good in many applications, but so are other powders. Promoted as temperature insensitive, it is unquestionably difficult to ignite in cold conditions in some loadings. I would not pay a premium for VarGet. Good. Shooting.....
