The problem is not just with Varget, if I am correct ALL stick powders are imported, none are manufactured in the U.S., consequently all stick powders I have seen lately are in the $41-45 range (and up) per #1, Varget is a bit worse because of the high demand and because it is imported from Australian Defence Industries, which has to fill military orders first.
Ball powders manufactured in the U.S. seem to be cheaper, running in the $35 per pound range, but match shooters and precision shooters usually prefer stick. However all the powder in the world doesn't mean much if you can't light it off, primers still seem to be harder to come by at any price (now typically at least 8-11 cents each). Don't even mention Blackhorn 209, IF you can find it is about $80 for EIGHT OUNCES which translates into $160/lb... |
