Pres, thanks for the pic!

Allright, I have one of those in the box! The tag on it reads "USMC only" though. I suspect the aluminum handstop is for the USMC version only?

I dug out my Remington factory parts catalog and it shows the 40 XB (HB) with a wierd shape plastic handstop (they call it the "front swivel block"). I have 5-6 of those in my box also so it looks like I am covered.

I will scan the exploded parts diagram and listing and post it here when I get a chance this weekend.

And before anyone asks (I can sense some of you jumping up and down in your seat), the answer is YES, the extra handstops I don't need I will post in the exchange forum since most of you are in the same boat as I am, except without the box of handstops.

Thanks for everyones input.

Regards,

My hand stop came with the rifle. 3 years ago the CMP had the USMC 40Xs with sights and handstop for $800. Best money I ever spent.

TIA,

The one I have is 1.328" in diameter and .756" thick. The center hole is offset and approx. .480" from the center of the hole to the closest edge. The raised flower petal area is .630" in diameter and .030" high. The diameter of the sling swivel recess is .611"-.622" (not exactly round) and
.130" deep.

It is cast aluminum and painted back. Hope that helps.

I ordered a 40xHBSS so I could finally use a stock I bought from the DCM at Perry 15 years ago (10 bucks if I recall). I just got out this stock to get measurements of the hand rail. This stock is for a 700 type HB action (with swept bolt). It has the long rail.

My Anschutz hand stop will not work. The Remington rail is blocked in front by the wood of the stock. The Anschutz hand stop is too long to fit in the recess and also the wrong shape to fit the t-slot.

Handstops with a square or rectangle nut to fit the t-slot should work. I have the handstop that came with my H&R M12. It looks exactly like these handstops. The t-nut is .510" by.450 inches wide and the narrow fits fine in the 40x. The wide fits the Anschutz. The actual slot measures .325 on the rem, .400 on the Anschutz and .330 on the H&R.

I also found these handstops similar to the picture presidentg posted.

By the way, know anyone that has a Winchester model 75 barreled action to fit a stock I purchased at the same time?

Rick,

Thanks for the additional info, looks like I ended up with 1 of the 40X type and 5 of the 40XB types. I guess I have to wait and see what the CMP sends me before I can bequeath the extras to my fellow forum members.

Regards,

PS, The 40XB versions do not seem to be plastic but some sort of bakelite material......

Jeff,

Please put me in line for an XB type if you are able to let them go.
