A question please,
Why isn’t the sling used in offhand? Offhand is the least stable position, certainly when compared to the prone but the sling is used in the prone and not in offhand? |

The (US) military did instruct and allow the use of slings in offhand shooting. See any of the FM field manuals. The answer to your question must lie with the development of NRA competition rules where logic is often is shaded by tradition.. Good Shooting. ....

There’s a pretty good USMC instructional video on YouTube about shooting with the M14 that shows shooting standing with a sling. But anyways, to know why we don’t allow it in high power, I guess we’d have to look back at the history of the sport. Gary Anderson’s recent book about shooting with military rifles starts with some good history, plus it’s very informative on shooting positions and stuff.
