I remember being a young Houston Police patrol officer working 15 district in 1978. On weekends we would occasionally get silent burglar alarms at the National Guard Armory on Old Spanish Trail. We knew what was happening. Weekend duty for Guard members who did not disarm the alarm. One Saturday or Sunday we observed a group of guardsmen gathered around a chest high table cleaning many 45s. Coffee cans filled with soaking internal parts and slides and frames all over the table top. When they reassembled the pistols no attempt was made to match up slides and frames.
