Just curious.

More recently:

9.14.13 $6000 http://cmpauction.thecmp.org/detail.asp?id=1455

If you think that one hoya mentions for $10K is high...sit down, strap in and get ready for this one:

M1A1 Inland Service Grade SN- 2969943

$136,500!
From 27 Dec 2009.

Better yet, or worse yet, depending on your viewpoint, that isn't the highest...check this one out:

M-1 Carbine Rack Grd IP SN- 1781613

$230,075!!
From 7 Mar 2010. And for a rack grade.

Of course, there has to be "the rest of the story" on these...if you look at the bidding on each one, it's as if someone went in and put those high bids to beat any other bids, but they seem to have taken as final bids. Unlike the one hoya mentions where there is methodical and sequential bidding up to the end of the auction.
Neither won was ever re-listed. Strange...maybe somebody here knows.

Big_Red,

When I first saw those 2 auctions you mentioned, I was stunned until I realized both bidders probably left out a decimal point in their bids. Can you imagine their reactions when they realized what they really bid--blown head gaskets?

As I recall there was some discussion about these "1 bids" and they were determined to be "test" bids when the CMP was transitioning to the new web site.
