Default Kimber Model 82G

Has anyone seen anything other than an American black walnut stock show up on one of the CMP Kimber 82G's?

Mine is birch.

Stained to look like Muenster cheese.

Yes, my CMP Kimber 82G came with wood that I think is called poplar. This wood type is commonly used in furniture making and boat building. It is a very dense grained wood and is heavy. My stock sticker is listed as 10.47. It is stained a dark brown. It came on a 4 digit serial numbered rifle (5000) range. This rifle is super accurate with both Eley and Wolf match grade ammo. I have also seen some 82G's with birch stocks.

Both of mine are straight grained walnut. About as much figure as in the new M1 stocks on some of the CMP Garands. Nice but uninteresting.

Mine came with Birch. I stripped it and did not stain it but did hand rub seveeral coats of B.C. on it. Came out very nice.

The Kimber I received in Dec. 2012 sure isn't black walnut. Might be poplar, never heard of gunstocks being made out of it, we use it primarily for interior paint grade wood/millwork here in Florida. I think it's some other species. Looks like "fluffy- wood", with the wide soft grain pattern. I was hoping for walnut, but this has growed on me. Like always, mail order is luck-o-the-draw. No extra charge for the long butt-scratch too. For $425, I'm happy with whatever wood it came with!
