Default My pair of 5.9 mil SA Service Grades Received Today

Oh happy day. I just got my two service grades delivered to my house today. Both were in the 5.9 mil s/n range. I've never had mail order rifles within such close s/n range delivered before. I haven't disassembled them completely yet, but they are a mixture of parts, which is okay with me. The finish on them is great, no pitting or surface rust anywhere.

1) SA 5917817, Barrel is an SA 8/55, ME/TE is 1+/2+

2) SA 5928022, Barrel is an SA 9/55, ME/TE is 1+/2, USGI stock with DoD acceptance stamp

Totally worth the wait.

Default Lead Dipped Winnie

Another great delivery from the CMP. My service grade Winchester arrived today, and exceeded my expectations. The metal and finish was in great shape, no rust or pitting at all. Lead dipped receiver, SA 3-46 barrel with 2/2 readings, most other parts were SA from initial glance. The stock set is fantastic, though no markings at all.

Picked up my first Garand at the Talladega store yesterday. Cleaned it up after I took the photos. Serial number gives it a May 1956 manufacture if I recall. Can't wait to take it to the range.

Service grade 1.88 SA showed up, nice "51E" carving on the upper handguard. Thoughts on meaning?

I finally got around to field stripping my new-to-me M1 that came in yesterday. It's a SA service grade. Serial number dates it to August(?) 1955. Looks to be in REALLY nice shape. Things is that I have little-to-no idea what I have as far as the parts are concerned. Anything you fine people could tell me would be appreciated!

Round 2: Let's see if I've got this posting pictures stuff wired...

Long story short, 30 plus years ago picked up a beater Garand which I intended to cannibalize for parts. Never did and it sat neglected in my closet until I had the bright idea to send it to the CMP smithy's to see what they could do with it. Post technical inspection debrief showed the only salvageable parts to be the receiver, bolt and trigger group with a little R&R to the latter. I asked if they could put the old girl back into as close to "as issued" as practical. The quoted price that was more than reasonable, so I gave the green light. Below is the result. The pictures of "before" and "after" don't do either justice. She was really abused in her previous life and thanks to the fine folks at the CMP, she's back to her original glory. If you've ever pondered sending your basket case to the CMP for over-haul...don't think twice. They did a beautiful job for a great price...I couldn't be happier.
