My long range rifle started as a Rem 700 PS-1.

Rem 700s from the factory are known to have long throats.

When I worked up my load, I started at book COAL.

Once I got the powder charge worked out. I loaded a set with each group longer, until I hit the max the mag could handle (Manner's Min Chassis stock).

When I shot them (round robin), each increase in COAL was a smaller group, right up to the longest I could feed from the mag.

And the change from starting to longest was significant.
