Does anyone know if, with people buying these rifles now, they will become eligible for sniper rifle competition? The unconfirmed rumor is that 1200 were purchased from the French Govt. by Navy Arms. They would qualify as Cold War era or Modern as they were in service from 1986 to 2020-ish. The question of which scope would be allowed will be interesting as it seems that every branch of French Military Service and the Police had their own individual choice. Thank you.

6.1.1 says "The spirit and intent of the CMP Vintage Sniper Rifle Team Match is to provide
modern target rifle competitions for competitors who use original or replica military sniper rifles dated 1953 or earlier." Based on that I'd say no unless a new class is introduced. |

They are legal in the Vintage Sniper World Championship if used with the original 4x scope. You can fire it in the Modern Sniper World Championship is if used with the other issued scopes.

One thing that should be pointed out is that the original APX scopes are very very rare, much more so than the rifles. Maybe you could allow other period scopes for vintage like some groups do with the Lee Enfield T as long as they are 4x and under?

Didn’t they originally use the same APX scope as MAS 49/56? They aren’t rare but can be pricey now. Glad I picked up one years ago for the MAS.

The FRF2 used a variant specifically calibrated for 7.62x51 - APX806-04. I believe the 7.5 French chambered FRF1 used the APX806-03. The mAS 49/56 used the plain APX806. The 04 is rare!

Forgotten weapons does a nice job of explaining the FRF2.

Yeah, Ian’s the man. His videos are first rate.
Nine Hole Reviews does some testing of the FRF2 as well. Another great channel! They use Ian’s rifle too. https://youtu.be/dxMgo9Vrs9c https://youtu.be/wdf2oO2DzlI Last edited by levallois; 08-19-2022 at 05:44 PM. |

![]() Considering the prices listed and the lack of general collector interest in the US, how many people are going to buy these with the intent of competing in CMP events? If you want a modern "sniper rifle" there are better options.
