I am firmly in the camp that allows individuals to do as they choose. The only principle that the eye (ear) protection issue brings up is "public burden" ie: the public should not be burdened by an individual's irresponsible act. This is real in the area of seat belts and motorcycle helmets due to the astronomical costs associated with brain and spinal injuries. It is not real in the area of statistically insignificant eye injuries possibly occurring at CMP events. I suspect this is the same old "our lawyers said" argument which seems to affect many of the things we do. I do wonder what would happen if, as the targets come up at CP, everyone held their classes up and no one fired a shot..... Good Shooting. ... BTW--if this rule change is "good", just what has been so "bad" for the last hundred years?? Must be we are "woke" now....

Eye Pro is standard in every US Armed Force now and has been fo quite some time. Not gettin around that. NO PPE and yer gonna pay the price.

Back to drills , $200.00 in AZ, wood for drills and they still beat the price. My last one came with a CMP tag still on it.

October, 2022 update:

Went to CMP North store a couple weeks ago (I live just over 1 hour away).

M1903a3 Drill Rifles are priced at $400 now. Rough shape.

Noticed this morning that Dupage drillers are up another 25 bucks to $250. . . Kinda terrible for the crowd that does recoveries. . .especially with plastic stocks.

I wish I bought ALL of these when they had them in stock. What a deal this was being recovered with a mill, blasted, and parked at $125.

I have two I built up, years ago! I will not do it at this time even for a "Better grade" drill rifle.

WELCOME to the NEW world of inflation!
Buy a rifle that does not work, then spend more then double the selling price. To make it work!
You can get quality new firearms for less money! The age of low cost surplus firearms is gone and will never return!

I bought several maybe 3-4 years ago- about 7 A3s and 2 1903s as well as the parts to rebuild them. I’m planning to take that on as a retirement project. I’m 37 now, and I figure that when I’m 65+, I’ll be really glad that I made the investment when I did!

I would like this to be true, but I'm doubtful. I'm 41 and have several projects in flight. If I were to think about this in terms of raw cost rather than my own enjoyment and satisfaction, it's a bonkers investment that will never pay off.

I suspect that there are regulatory headaches and a huge generation of collectors passing on between us and retirement. If you can have them at that point, there will be enough good ones available to scratch any itch.
