During the 17 years I had a real M14NM rifle in my possession (issued for use on the National Guard shooting team) no one ever asked if it was legal for me to have it, even when they didn't know I was in the ANG. No one ever asked about the commercial copies I used either. It makes one wonder why the BATF makes it such a big deal.

Because it is one of the reasons for their existence.

Well, the BATF does not care one iota about the M1 Garand, and they would not care one iota about the M14 - aside from one pesky fact about its design and function...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAABMvmaGWQ

...the pesky fact being the M14 shots 7.62 NATO at 700 rounds per minute...aside from that fact, the BATF wouldn't care one iota...just stating the facts folks.

Well...

If one has ever fired the M14 on full auto, and tried to hit something w/ it?

... it hardly qualifies.

Closer to a shotgun, really.

There maybe one shot at M14 parts kits.

There has been mention that deep in the CMP warehouse there is a stash of TRW National Match M14's.

Why is this important?

Well these were the only M14's made as semi-auto M14's from the very beginning.

Despite this, ATF still classified them as "machine guns" (How stupid), so we will never get them as complete rifles.

But should CMP ever get caught up with business, they might consider breaking them down into parts kits, wonderful National Match parts kits, needing only a premium receiver to get them back to what they were. Drool.......

Hi mnhusker,

I would like to believe that story, all we can do is hope!
Sadly, many of us have lost all hope of things like the Easter bunny & the Tooth fairy a few years ago.
I think this story is right up there with hundred's of original WW-2 jeeps still in original packing case for the last 76+ years.

Hope springs ETERNAL,

Since they canceled the Nationals last year. I would like to get a bottle of your Favored adult beverage, so I too can have a good dream or two!

Enjoy every day,
