Default Crazy World of Ammo Today!

I remember buying my first spam cans of clipped HXP from the CMP in 2009 for $60 ea. I didn't even have a Garand or any rifle cambered for .30 yet.
Orest told us the CMP was able to purchase some 100 million rounds of the HXP from Greece, in a variety of can configurations, the spam cans of clipped in bandoleers was always a favorite
The last cans I bought from the CMP was several years ago for $115, which included shipping, I think that's when they sold out of em for good
Crazy that these cans are selling for over $500 now!

The scary part is that people are paying it.

Default Times we live in

Doug:
Great analogy
In 2009 how many Garand collectors were out there?
How many more rifles has the cmp sold since 2009?
I have seen no big shipments of ammo since the Greek returns

And finally I think the political climate has everyone uneasy and itís just not 30-06 that is missing on American shelves today itís everything that goes bang.

if you have none at the moment, you feel like you should have SOMETHING. There's a cloud hanging overhead that lingers, supply may come back to semi-normal, but theres no guarantees it will. Who wants to be that person caught flat-footed? Not I, nor apparently do the 19+ million new gun owners over the last year.

At that price, I doubt they are buying to flip it.

Look at the store reports about first time buyers and there is no ammo for what they are buying. It's almost to the point if I don't buy now, will I be able to in the future?

I’ve been in the process of offloading all of my surplus .30/06 for the past year or so. Almost all of my buyers have been young people around my age who said they recently got CMP M1s. There wasn’t much interest locally for my ammo until the PPU dried up online.

Default New M1 owner

I made my first trip to CMP this passed fri. I love my M1 but finding ammo has been ridiculous. CMP had none so I've been running around to area gun stores and flea markets and have been buying a box here and a box there, and have been paying between $1.25 and $3.80 a round so far, I now have about 120 rounds but would like to get to 500+ rounds. I've never fired a M1 befor but I shot expert with the M14 in the late 80s when I was in the Navy on Subs, so I'm not exactly a newbie. Anyway if anyone could give me a idea where I could buy bulk 30 06 for a reasonable price I would really appreciate it.

Start handloading! Even with large rifle primers at $150+/1000 it's a bargain compared to $1.25+ per round for loaded ammo.
