Built one in 7mm-08 a year back (got the barrel from a friend that works in a gun shop). It was taken off a garand since the owner wanted a rifle in 30-06. I am sorry to say I have not shot it yet! Bought another barrel from Criterion last year in 6.5 X 55. I hope to build that one in the near future.

Hiya,

Why 7mm, why not 6.5mm? Better BC #'s and larger bullet selection with much more weights available as match class projectiles.

if you're going with a 308 length case, I would look at the 260 Remington, it's 308 Win based so in a pinch, you can make it almost as easy as 7mm-08.

With a 6.5mm bore, you could also run my favorite cartridge, the 6.5x55 SE. You would need to use US made brass as they have the .473 rim diameter vs the European cases which have a 12.2MM/.481 diameter.

If you're sticking with the '06 length, I would look seriously at the 6.5mm-'06. It's not a factory loading but easily made by necking up 25-06/270 cases or necking down .30-'06.

My 2 cents, no actual value.... :-)
