Default 1 pound of Varget option

Friend of mine called yesterday, Midway notified him Varget in stock with 1 pound jug limit and he bought one. Price was , including shipping and hazmat & state tax, 70 dollars for that 1 # of Varget.

I was of no mind to chase Varget at 70 bucks a pound and I find it beneath comment that its come to this...1# Varget is all you get , like we're all wretched peasants begging .

A local store that historicaly does not raise margins has 69gr SMK bullets for $.25 each. On rare occasion when they do have primers, they are around $4 per 100. I see this as an indication wholesale prices have not increased 2-3x we have seen on retail. I suspect most of the mark up is on the retail side and we will see prices drop to more expected levels once supply and demand better match..

Midway was doing the same thing with IMR 4895, limiting it to one pound only; however, they just raised the limit to 2 pounds. So maybe they limit it to one pound for the first 24 hours and then raise the limit if it doesn’t sell out?

Skip,

Wish I still lived down your way so I could get 8lbs back from Andy S. He's been sitting on it since 2014.

Back home in WI around XMAS was in the local ACE and they had VARGET, was $53 IIRC. Add HAZMAT and shipping and $70 seems about right.

Including hazmat, shipping and tax that's actually an excellent price these days. Hazmat fees, unfortunately, make buying single pound cans of powder too expensive. They always have but it's even worse now since those fees have increased substantially.

I looked on the UPS Site. It appears ground hazmat is around $20 or more.

Local LGS had some last month at $52 a pound. It only lasted a couple of days. WHen I saw it there were only 4 bottles left.
