Default 1911 Question

I know this is a 1 in a million longshot, my Colt 1911A1 I just received had
a Colt slide but it wasn't numbered / sn stamped on it / same as my Colt frame. I wonder if the CMP 1911 folks might keep an eye out for slide stamped 799248 or perhaps know which 1911/who's 1911 the slide could have ended up on? I guess more likely it was mis-matched long ago. Thank you.

I would have to say they will not be able to do that. They don't do the parts interchanging. They take them out of the crate, grade 'em and sell 'em. It's most likely why the slide isn't with the frame anymore is decades ago a USGI armorer tossed it for failing inspection and installed the next good slide in line.

There is a thread here for people looking to match slides.
I don't think anyone has gotten lucky (yet)
