Default North Store Report 12/17/20

Made the trip to visit the North Store from Virginia on Thursday (12/17). Had an appointment for 10:30AM, but arrived at 8:25AM and headed to the registration room to see if I could get in earlier. At registration your name is taken down and you are verified whether or not you have an appointment or are a walk-in. They take your temperature with a non-contact thermometer and ask a series of COVID symptom/exposure questions. When 8:30AM hit, I was one of 9 or 10 customers and we were all let into the store (masks and gloves required - CMP has disposable gloves to hand out).

My goal was for a 1903 Springfield and I was the only one in the initial group looking for them (I was at the South Store last week and picked up a Krag, 03A3, and 1917 there, but the South Store and TMP were out of 1903s). There were 7 total FG 1903s, 3 of which had scant stocks (the rest were "S" stocks). I picked up a FG 1903 Springfield 89XXXX "high number" with a SA 1-30 dated barrel and scant stock, 2/2+. All 1903s were FGs marked "dark bore". I also ended up picking up a SG WRA M1 Garand with WRA marked bolt, HRA 10/55 barrel, 2/4. There were only 3 on the rack and 1 had a CMP replacement stock.

Two customers in the initial group were buying their full allotment of 8 Garands each on their trip, so 16 (mostly SG/FG SA/HRA I believe) were picked up, tagged, and put behind the counter in the first few minutes.

For store inventory as of 9:30AM on Thursday 12/17:
-M1 Garand SG "RM1SERVICE" (SA & HRA) - 32
-M1 Garand FG "RM1FIELD" (SA & HRA) - 20
-M1 Garand IHC SG "RM1IHCS" - 22
-M1 Garand IHC FG "RM1IHCF" - 24
-M1 Garand WRA SG "RM1WRAS" - 2
-M1 Garand WRA FG "RM1WRAF" - 10
-M1 Garand SA SG 6 Million "RM1SAS6M" - 2
-M1C SG "RM1CSB" - 2
-M1C FG "RM1CFB" - 1
-M1D WRA RG "RM1DWRAR" - 1
-M1 Garand Drill Rifle "RM1DRILL" - 1
-M1903A3 FG with "S" Stock Mixed Manufacturer "RMA3FIELDS" - 4 (2 with white painted stocks)
-M1903 FG with "S" Stock Mixed Manufacturer "RM03FIELDS" - 6 (2 with scant stock)
-M1917 Enfield FG "RM1917FG" - 17 (I believe there were Eddystone, Remington, and WRA rifles present)
-Daisy 853 "DAISY853UM" - 3
-Daisy M853 "DAISYM853U" - 3

I guess several customers asked, because at one point Bob made an announcement to the group that the only rifles he had in the back were IHC Garands - which had full racks out for both grades (SG/FG). He said everything else he had (including bolt guns) was already out on the floor. He had asked the South Store for a resupply truck but said he has no way of knowing when it would arrive.

When I brought the 1903 up to the counter to be tagged Bob said if I was able I should grab a 1903A3 and 1917 as well because he hadn't seen them available for the last 9 years in any quantity like this and he doubts we will see anything like this in the future. I told him I had already limited out from my South Store trip the week before.

(Of note: the CMP North Store is currently out of hard cases for M1 Garands. You will receive your Garand purchase in a green plastic bag. At purchase you have the option to have the CMP mail you a case when they come back in to stock, or you can receive $25 off your Garand purchase. The North Store DOES still have the foam filled cases for bolt guns, I was given one of these for my 1903 purchase.)

After making selections and squaring away paperwork with Bob, I headed back to the registration room to wait for my NICS to come back. When I got back to the registration/waiting area, the next set of waiting customers was allowed into the store. NICS came back in about 30 minutes, I went back to the store to pay for my order, picked up my rifles, and headed back to Virginia.

Another great trip to the CMP! The staff at the CMP North Store are outstanding! A special thanks to Bob for taking the time to help me choose between two SG WRA M1 Garands!

My update won't be as detailed, as I was only looking for specific makes. Had an 8:30 appointment today.

03's- gone
03a3's- The infamous white stock was still there when I left at 9:30ish
1917's- Had a rack of about a dozen
Springfield Field Grade- I believe there were 4 or 5
Springfield Service Grade- I believe there were 3
IHC and HR- I didn't pay much attention to, but their racks were pretty full
Winchester- I think there were 3 along the wall.

I was looking for Field Grade Springfields so I apologize for the lack of detail. I was looking for blank busters so my sights were pretty narrow. Pun intended

Thanks for the report!

Wow! All the 1903's are gone! Now I'm really glad I made the trip Thursday to get one!

Yeah the gentleman I held the door for nabbed it before I could ask Bob if they had any. Didn't bother me much though as my goal was a Garand anyways. An 03 to throw in would've sweetened the pot but I'm not going to lose sleep over it ha ha
