Ladies and Gentlemen:

We have lost a great Louisianian and Marine .

One of my greatest friends, father died, on the 12th of Feb. He was one of the Wake Island Marines, who was forced to surrender to the Japanese, which made him a prisoner of war, for a little over four and a half years. He barely survived his captivity, had it not been for a Japanese Doctor who helped him in some ways. His Name was Joseph Edwin Borne. He also served in the Korean War and retired with the rank of Gunnery Sergent.

A member of the United States Marines, 1st Defense Battalion Wake Island.

He was the first State Commander, of the LA State Department of American ex Prisoners of War, Inc., and the South Louisiana Chapter of American Prisoners of War, Commander.

Let Us as Louisianians, be thankful for his service to us, and to our country, and wish him a peaceful rest. His sacrifice showed a great part of what makes this country so great.

No Doug. I shoot on private property or at the hunting club shooting range here by my house. I picked up a 1943 garand a few years back . Searched thru the whole pile and only found about 4 WWII built ones. Non had original barrels though. One guy did find a original one though. But this was about 5 years ago.
