FOIA results : unclassified

I received my email back on my FOIA request for my cmp1911a1, and the email header it states CLASSIFICATION: UNCLASSIFIED

the results are only as early as 2010, could it mean that it's previous entries are something that cannot be released?



This letter is in response to your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request dated
November 17, 2021 reference number AMC FOIA # FP-22-004296/FA-22-0334. The
request is for ownership history on a M1911A1 pistol serial number 720944.
The following Information was found in the Department of Defense (DoD) Small
Arms/Light Weapons Registry for a M1911A1W0, .45mm Automatic Pistol, NSN: 1005-
00-726-5655, Serial Number 720944. The records for this weapon are listed below in
chronological order:
1. 03 August 2010 - Army General Supply (Logistics Modernization Program (LMP)
Stock Records), Anniston, Alabama received the weapon from a Department of
Defense (DoD) Agency.
2. 06 March 2011, 03 December 2011, 19 January 2011, 07 March 2015, 01 May
2016, 05 March 2017, 04 June 2017, 31 March 2019 and 24 April 2020 - Army
General Supply (Logistics Modernization Program (LMP) Stock Records),
Anniston, Alabama performed reconciliations on the weapon.
3. 05 June 2020 - Army General Supply (Logistics Modernization Program (LMP)
Stock Records), Anniston, Alabama shipped the weapon to Civilian
Marksmanship Program, Anniston, Alabama.
4. 05 June 2020 - The Civilian Marksmanship Program, Anniston, Alabama
received the weapon from the Center of Military History, Anniston, Alabama.
5. 05 June 2020 - The Civilian Marksmanship Program, Anniston, Alabama shipped
the weapon outside the Department of Defense (DoD).

I think it is just simply stating the information they were able to find as a result of this FOIA request is Unclassified in nature, not that there is additional "Classified" they could not release.

yes, I believe so too - it has to be unclassified to be released to the public

that said, it is interesting you don't get where it came from;

IN active units weapons are sensitive items along with a ammo, COMSEC, etc and inventoried by the primary hand receipt holder who appoints a disinterested party to conduct the inventory and resign the sensitive items inventory. 100% physical inventory by serial number. I lack that expertise in Guard/Res units.

It was likely shipped there to be stored as surplus with the rest of the pistols. I would bet that it came from a Guard unit or a State's stock pile or weapons unassigned to units.

On 05 June 2020, it was shipped to The Civilian Marksmanship Program, so it would have been part of the FY 2020 allotment received while Round 1 was still going on.

I k ow these request results are usually vague, but why was it never inventoried until it was handed over by an unknown DoD branch in 2010? Any govt weapon is usually inventoried at least once a year., right?

This pistol was a rack grade I received. It's a blued 1940 colt frame with stippling on the front grip area of the frame and has a rebuild Mark that is presumed to be from the marine Corp base in Barstow

I have a Remington Rand with a " B " rebuild mark . Could this possibly indicate a Barstow rebuild ?

FWIW, my FOIA also only starts at 2010 and has the same verbiage as yours (even with the .45mm typo). Disappointing, but it is what it is
