Looking forward to receiving my CMP 1911A1.
RGN was called last week. When I get the 1911 A1 does it require a complete disassembly and cleaning before a range trip? or does a Field strip suffice. I am comfortable with field strip but not so sure on a complete disassembly and re-assembly. mostly unsure of getting all the parts back together!! |

In my opinion a quick field strip, oil and functions check would suffice for a range trip. I tend to be a bit fastidious, so I'm sure I'll find myself doing a complete disassembly with a nice tumbler of bourbon upon receipt.

Mine functioned as is and I shot it after greasing the usual spots, but I also detail stripped it anyway after to clean out the caked grease I found inside and the oil soaked under the grips. That also gave me an opportunity to coat the insides with bearing grease to keep everything protected.
It’s really easy to detail strip and reassemble a 1911. |

Probably a lot like CMP rifles: Each one is an individual. Some are pretty much clean and ready to go with just minor detailing. Some are gunked up and require a lot more work and cleaning. You should be able to determine level of effort required when you have it in hand.

Mine was dry as a bone and in great shape (field grade). Patch or two down the barrel, appropriate lubes, and off to the races!
