Im looking for a scope for a 1941 build and these 2 seem to pop up semi regularly for a fair better price than an equivalent unertl. (I’m not worried about it having to be 8x) I can’t seem to find the difference in TS and the STS though. Can anyone shed light on this subject please? Are they a worthy substitute for a a unertl or one of the leatherwood repros? Thanks!

I’m currently building a USMC sniper as well. I have no knowledge on either of the lyman’s but I decided to go with the Malcom 8X Gen II.

I have a Super and the objective lens is 1.5 inches. I have a Junior and it is 1 inch. I suppose the Target Spot is either 1.25 or 1.125 inches.
A decent Lyman is every bit as good as an Unertl... maybe even better (I think so).

Wart Hawg over at rimfire central cleared it up for me though! (Copied from over there incase anyone here is curious like I was) Targetspot 8X or 10X 1935-1948 22 inch long 1.125" objective Junior Targetspot 6X 8X 10X 1937-1957 20.5-21.5 inch long 0.875" objective Super Targetspot 10,12,15,20,25,30X magnification 1937-1978 24.375 inch long 1.34375 " objective However, Lyman converted many Targetspots to Super Targetspots by replacing the smaller objective with the larger one and changing 4 point mounts to the improved 3 point. These "modified" versions are still marked Targetspots but the serial number is followed by an "S" |
