Default Is this a "real" MK 2 MOD 0?

I picked this up at a local show yesterday. It came from the estate of a known M1 Garand collector who owned many fine examples. I thought it might be a repro since I didn't see AMF or H&R stamped next to 7.62 Nato. (It *does* have the chamber insert and the block.) Then a friend of mine told me that he thinks it is real and sent me the info below:

"The rifles offered for sale by the CMP are all the MK2 MOD 0 variety. While the later MK2 MOD1 rifles were seen with the contractor’s markings on the barrel near the drawing number, this was not always the case with the MK2 MOD 0 rifle. Only a few of the CMP offering were seen with AMF or H&R inscriptions."

My question is: Does this look like the rifles that the CMP sold 9+ years ago? If so, does anyone have knowledge as to the source of these particular examples?
(I am not really concerned with value at this time, as I don't currently own a 7.62 Nato example and I plan to keep it either way. It would just be exciting and more interesting if real.)

Thanks!!

Looks good to me, I believe it to be an earlier AMF conversion. If you have a way to highlight the markings (chalk, grease pencil, paint, etc.) I could increase my confidence some.

Here is a good picture of a similarly marked Mod 0 on the CMP auction.

I have 3 of the auction rifles. Two are marked just like yours and the third has the AMF and H & R in addition to the 7.62 NATO. Probably well worth spending the $25 to have the CMP research it. Or maybe someone has a list of all the auction rifle S/Ns. If you want pics of the markings on my barrels send me a PM with your email.

Gustro79,

Thanks for posting the pictures. It looks authentic to me. You are correct to assume there are fakes however.

Gary,

Are you saying you have a B/R that is stamped with BOTH H&R and AMF?

Gustro79, I have an article on the Mk2 Mod0 rifles and their origins. Send me an email and I can attach it.

Mod 0

Not sure if there is any way to verify the furniture.

Nice find if the price was right.
