Default Flip Sight From S'G' Carbine....Real or Fake?

Howdy Forum Friends,

Pre-Covid, I bought an S'G' carbine at a Houston Gun Collectors' Show.
It seemed pretty genuine, although I noticed that the flip sight was not coded
S'G' and there was a little "damage" to the dovetail, so I assumed that the flip sight might have been a field replacement from battle damage. And more recently I learned that dovetail"damage" was the staking done by S'G' factory for flip sights. Can y'all look at the posted pix and let me know your thoughts, appreciate your help. If I need to remove this sight, how do I do that without damaging dovetail??

Thanks so much for your help!

Looks like a fake IBM flip to me. IN-B seems to be the most prevalent marking on the fakes.

Rob,

Thanks for your input. . . . what about the IN-B that makes it look fake?
What about the "S" with serifs???
Thanks,

John

You would never see an IBM flip on an SG carbine. It would either be Irwin Pedersen or Saginaw GR. Look on eBay and you will see a lot of IBM sights (admittedly repro or pretending to be real). It will be almost impossible to find a genuine IP or SG flip and will be very pricey if real.
The S on on the left side means Smaller side so to remove it, tap left to right. To install, tap right to left.
By the way, I would leave it as is. You can spend a lot of money and it will still never be original again.
