Default Vintage sniper match stocks

I know 03a4's are allowed to run scant stocks for cmp vintage sniper. Are 03a1/usmc unertls allowed to run scant or straight stocks?

In the CMP vintage sniper match rule book under 1903A1/M1941 sniper rifle it states C - stock. Straight or scant stock is not mentioned but again all 3 types of stocks are as issued over the years. Hard to believe they would put you OOC for any 3 of the stock variations.

Just my thoughts

That's what I was thinking. All 3 stocks were issued on 03's and the a4 specifically allows all 3. Just strange that it only mentions c stock for 03/03a1/03 unertl/m1941.

No. The rules say scant and C stock for A4s and C stock for USMC1941 1903s. There have been ad hoc rulings in the past and posts from the CMP that are contrary to the rules. If you are counting on your rifle passing inspection, make sure it is within the rules or have documentation from CMP allowing anything different. There are obvious mistakes in the rulebook that have remained for years. With particular regard to the 1903 sniper, much photographic documentation of WW2 rifles with finger groove straight stocks--doesn't seem to matter. Good Shooting..... .

This has come up numerous times over the years. And while the most famous picture of Marines with Unertl Sniper rifles on Okinawa clearly shows two S stocked rifles side-by-side, and that the most famously documented Unertl Sniper rifle is S stocked, and that numeous people have urged the CMP to change the rule...the rule still states C stocks for Unertl Snipers.

It's a really odd thing to be so rigid about, considering the historical evidence. Imagine showing up with a legit original S stocked Unertl sniper and being told your rifle does not comply with the rule book.

I always thought it would be funny if I actually got to the National matches with my Marine sniper and by some fluke reason won that I’d get disqualified because it’s in a straight stock.
